It does appear to be a staged event, one directed by Becky Anderson of CNN. Media outlets have contrived or been coerced to treat what are essentially unpaid advertisements as something newsworthy. I found this out in 1965 when there were plenty of protests relating to the Civil Rights movement. One protest occurred in the affluent Cleveland suburb of Beachwood. Some Black people felt that their landlord was a slumlord so they went to his home and had a sit-in in his swimming pool. It was broadcast and I thought how fortuitous it was that the TV crews had stumbled onto this event. I later learned that the reason the cameramen were there was because some organizer had called the station manager to make sure the trucks arrived on schedule. It was a contrived story, or to use the present expression , fake news. I can give other Cleveland area examples if you're interested. Fake news goes back centuries, well before there were mass media outlets. The worst practitioners of fake news are rightwing extremists like FOX News and Breitbart. Nobody is completely clean but the rightwingers are far, far dirtier than the Washington Post, NYT or CNN. |

Here is a perfect example of fabricated news from the early 1990s.  It shows an Arab boy and his Jewish best friend embracing each other while gazing into the cloudy image of Jerusalem, a city holy to three great faiths. It makes me think how tragic it is that adults can not discard their hatred for each other as the two boys did. If only we could return to the childlike innocence with which we were all born, before we accepted all those prejudices. That's the narrative I derive from the photo but it's complete bullshit. Both boys were Jewish; no Arabs were present. So they gathered together some well wishers and anti-terrorism supporters who were already there for a photo op? Yeah, can't get too upset about that. Oh, and the photo was in a different place to that video. I walked past the spot in the video this morning, as I do every morning on my way to work, and there is no such shop there as the one in the background of the photo. |

At the cordon by the junction of Southwark Street and Southwark Bridge Road (where the video was taken), there were a number of women in hijabs and Asian looking men there this morning with similar placards with no corralling from the media. I don't know if they were the same people or not, but the fact is (as far as I'm aware) that they went there of their own volition to pay their respects and show their solidarity. I'm just not going to get my knickers in a twist if a media outlet decided that they wanted a bit more of a punchy shot. |

Now in the original video, at about 7 seconds you can see that the CNN staffer in the white shirt who is directing the protesters, has a stack of the protest signs. Why would that be? Did he collect them off the streets as souvenirs? Or were they made by CNN and handed out? In the CNN video it's even more obvious at 17 seconds. Note the guys in white are holding the signs over their faces, because they are CNN staffers and note they have "LindaSarsour" T shirts on. They ain't British. The stack of signs carried by the CNN staffer are the same ones put on the traffic bollard behind the police line. His was the first tweet I saw on it...and you should know that simply labeling a person racist doesn't really mean shit now, since you are also a racist bigot by declaration on this forum. Even if the tweet was by Hitler, it doesn't change what is presented. Also, slight thing, the bridge on those pictures is Tower Bridge, not London Bridge, it is among the first images Google gives you if you search for "London Bridge" Cockneys wouldn't make that mistake, Yanks might.... |
