Why is it so hard to make a good Indiana Jones movie? When Indiana Jones first appeared, he was a liberal anti-hero. That is--he could not be traditionally successful or a role model. The underage scandal they put into it with Marion Ravenwood.
In each film, the supernatural solves the dilemma--IJ doesn't do much as a hero type.
Very different from Doc Savage or Zorro or other adventure characters. Or a Doug McClure movie.
Add to that, the media companies are committed to "wokeness," so that means hetero white men must suck.
You cannot do an adventure story about a hetero white male adventurer with that kind of rule.
It undermines every possible claim that they want to do an adventure story. The propaganda matters more to them.
Hollywood is like a car company that hates tires.
And they keep making new vehicles without tires and don't seem to care that customers aren't able to drive in them.

With a (rumored) budget of nearly $300 million and (rumored) hope for at least $900 million worldwide box office total, this is not a good start.

With a (rumored) budget of nearly $300 million and (rumored) hope for at least $900 million worldwide box office total, this is not a good start. These massive budgets and huge expected returns are what are killing the studios nowadays. More modest budgets and less expectations should be the norm I think with all the chaos/changes going on within the industry as well as world events both politically and financially. That said, I’ve only missed one Indy film at the theater during its initial run (Temple of Doom because my moms friends had heard about the heart scene) so I’ll definitely be there.

So, we're going from The Phantom Menace to Attack of the Clones all over again is it?
I really like AOTC so I'm good! I figured with Ford's age & the Rise of Skywalker ultra safe finale landing era we're in, I figured this would be a dry romp with a couple nostalgia nods. I think I will watch Crystal Skull a week prior - that'll be my bias going in. I give that movie a B+ btw, I like it too.

Meh. Can’t really trust reviews from either the critics or audience anymore. I’ll watch it and decide for myself. I used to eagerly anticipate reviews and grades prior to watching big movies or new episodes of whatever prestige TV show I was following, but as I've gotten older I've come to realize the pointlessness of critics. There's something inherently silly about the idea of saying "this respected publication gave the movie a good review, so it must be good and I'm excited to see it" or "this respected publication gave the movie a bad review, so that means it's bad and I'm less excited to see it." Look at it this way: when was the last time you saw a movie, loved it, then read a bunch of negative reviews and thought: "huh, I guess I was wrong - it's a bad movie" or vice versa? Ultimately, the only opinions we can trust are our own. We wouldn't be swayed by the view of some random Joe Shmoe on the street, so why should the opinion of a "professional movie critic" be any more valuable? These are movies - it's all subjective anyway.

Calling it right now.; either Little Mermaid or Spider-Verse will win the Summer. Eh? They’ll have to beat Mario.

These are movies - it's all subjective anyway. Especially when most of these 'critics' are Joe Schmoe on the Street, writing for Joe Schmoe on the Street.com. And this isn't even a defense of Indy, for all I know this movie could be terrible. But these hacks hold too much sway over the industry right now. These online rating systems are completely flawed and easily manipulated, to the detriment of the film industry. Online chatter is starting to dictate expectations to filmgoers more than negative critical review ever has in the past. Average-to-decent movies can and will bomb because public sentiment had already turned against them before they were even released.

I know I personally will enjoy this as I long ago understood that it's unrealistic to expect a sequel to recapture the rush of the original.
So no expectations means no disappointment.......and then I'm happy to see some Indy instead of none.
I get increasingly bored with and of vitriolic critics who create Nothing, and casually demand blood from and berating others that do create.

The reviews made a bit of a rebound in the past couple of weeks. Currently at 61% on RT, giving it the lowest in the series.

The more reviews that pour in this week, the more the RT score will fluctuate.
