This week I took advantage of MUBI's 'introductory offer' of four months for $4.00. It was the second time I had been 'introduced' this way but it did not seem to bother them. Last year I joined, promptly forgot I had joined, then binge-watched their movies once I had remembered with only three weeks to go. Finally, I forgot to cancel and had to pay the full subscription for the following month.
There are dozens of films to choose from at any one time, but the majority are from obscure or wannabe film-makers including many shorts and documentaries. Female film-makers are very well represented. No doubt some of these are well worth seeing, but there are also enough important main features to make it worthwhile for me.
For example, films available at present include:
Family Life (1971) dir: Krzysztof Zanussi
Dogtooth (2009) dir: Yorgos Lanthimos
A Short Film about Love (1988) dir: Krzysztof Kieślowski
The Sacrifice (1986) dir: Andrei Tarkovsky
In the Realm of the Senses (1976) dir: Nagisa Ôshima
Memoria (2021) dir: Apichatpong Weerasethakul
Masculin Feminin (1966) dir: Jean-Luc Godard
all of which were on my purchase list, so a good $4 worth for me. Plus many others which sound intriguing and of course many classics I have already seen or own.
Films can disappear from the playlist so, if you spot one you are keen to see, make a note of its end-date.

I subscribe to MUBI, they have a lot of interesting stuff. They're perhaps a little too focused on recent/contemporary titles and a little too random in their curation, would appreciate more comprehensive programming of directors/movements etc. but overall it's been very good. Seen a lot of great films.
