Marianne, I hope youβre joking about ending your Trivia questions. I look so forward to them every day. And this board would be a virtual ghost town w/o them

Bob Hope, John Wayne and Frank Sinatra have received the Congressional Gold Medal . BH...For his contributions to entertainment and culture, and the service he rendered his country through his efforts with the United Service Organizations. JW...In recognition of his distinguished career as an actor and his service to the Nation. FS...In recognition of his outstanding and enduring contributions through his entertainment career and numerous humanitarian activities. Well, IMDb did it to me again. According to what I found there, Bob Hope, Irving Berlin, and George M. Cohan were, allegedly, the ONLY three entertainers who were awarded a Congressional Gold Medal. Cohan was given the award by FDR for his morale-boosting WWI songs "Over There" and "You're a Grand Old Flag. Unlike the way it was depicted in Yankee Doodle Dandy, instead of humbly and graciously accepting the award before dancing down the White House staircase, he initially balked at meeting FDR, whom he loathed, and probably had to be prodded up the stairs. Yankee Doodle Dandy premiered in NYC on May 29, 1942, and Cohan viewed this sugarcoated film bio before his death not long afterwards. Irving Berlin's Oscar-winning song "White Christmas" was recorded on May 29, 1942. Berlin was so anxious about the recording session that he reportedly hid in the studio while Bing Crosby recorded it. President Eisenhower gave him the award for his patriotic song "God Bless America." Bob Hope was given the award in 1962 by President Kennedy for his years of overseas tours entertaining the troops; he continued to visit the troops for a few more wars after that. As Eddie Foy in The Seven Little Foys, he performed a dance number along with James Cagney reprising his role as George M. Cohan. He, his wife Dolores, and Irving Berlin all reached or surpassed the age of 100 in their lifetimes. Now it turns out that John Wayne and Frank Sinatra (any others?) also received the same medal? Sheesh. So, I guess the Quickie Trivia Quiz is officially cancelled. It's been fun, but with some of the misinformation I've been finding, there's no point in continuing. So ta-ta and keep watching the skies! I didn't mean to put a "like" on the part of your post that called it quits. What I liked/understood was how difficult it is to search this topic. When I thought it might be a group of journalists to whom your question was referring, I used Google, mostly. It was a dizzy mess of confusing ... sometimes conflicting ... sea of information/misinformation. And, there are 12 gazillion Medals, that are bestowed by an equal number of political bodies, and organizations. This is the first time, that I recall, where your topics haven't been right on. Sometimes, they're tough, but I that's the challenge. This was unusual. Hang in there!

I always enjoy your classic film related challenges, If I have the time, and I also hope you keep them coming... This last QTQ had me going off on all sorts of tangents, starting off with Bebe Daniels and Marlene Dietrich the only two entertainers to receive the prestigious Medal of Honor. Following this lead, I read with great interest learning about the many heroic resistance fighters, scientists and political figures who also were awarded...
