Watched a film called Offseason on Hulu. Saw it recommended somewhere. It was compared to Silent Hill. I enjoy some of the Silent Hill games and liked the first film. Gave this movie a shot. Ohhhhhhh boy is it bad. The only comparison it has to Silent Hill is that there is fog. Thats it. Horrible acting (mainly the boyfriend/brother? Not sure which he was supposed to be. Plus the bridge operator.) Very slow and boring. Not even remotely scary. The movie ends and you just are left with "huh?" Its a massive waste of time. Zero redeeming qualities.
1/10

I'm so glad I watched The Swarm. One of the funniest fucking movies I've ever seen. The ghost bee hallucinations, the way they keep referring to the bees as "Africans", screen legend Olivia Havilland's embarrassing final performance. It's amazing. "Bees! Bees! Millions of bees!"

Ouija (Stiles White, 2014) Wow... this movie truly is terrifying. Terrifying in that it embodies everything I feel is wrong with major studios horror anymore. It’s literally a checklist of everything I hate. Does it equate scares with only being jump scares and loud noises? Yes. Are the characters so bland that you can’t like them but also don’t feel strongly enough to hate them either? Yep. Does it use CGI for every “scary” moment? Of course it does! Let’s add that it’s also flat out boring. This is seriously a movie that I just watched and I know a week from now I won’t be able to tell you much about it because there’s just nothing of note in it. This is everything I don’t want in a horror movie. 1/10

Today is national holiday in Germany. Thankfully it's also raining outside, this allows me to stay home all day and watch some movies for the challenge.

Zero redeeming qualities. 1/10 I was looking up titles the other day when we had crazy rain here in the NY area to fit the mood. Someone on some forum or list named this one as a good rainstorm horror movie. From your description it sounds like it was neither good nor rainy. Thanks for sparing me! You description also reminds me a bit of a movie I watched called We Need to Do Something. It was a slow, single location movie where this squabbling family is waiting some threat outdoors. It seems like a big storm, but it also seeks like it could be something else. Things intrude into their home while they stay in and then are stuck in the bathroom. But then that's it. It's actually fairly intriguing but it builds and builds, but (sorry to spoil) then leads to absolutely nothing. As much as I don't particularly love the ending of 10 Cloverfield Lane, this is like if that movie just had no ending and you never had any understanding of what any of it was about, but just knew something happened. Very frustrating, and instead of a respectful ambiguous ending it really just felt like a lame cop out.

The sequel isn't great, but it's MUCH better than the original.. which is weird. Why they wanted to make a sequel at all, is strange, but at least it doesn't really have anything to do with the first one.

Was at Best Buy where some silly person mispriced the 4K of Wes Craven’s version of Swamp Thing (only $10!!!!). Never seen it before. We counting it as horror or is it more sci-fi?

Spiral: from the book of Saw...or whatever. Honestly not a bad story but it missed being tied together with the rest of the universe. Part of the charm of the Saw franchise is its interesting timeline of connected characters and incidents and retconned histories and whatnot. This movie lacked the comfort of the other Saw films by feeling rather independent and thus kind of less interesting.
Graveyard Shift...I think this one took this long because I didn't care for the short story. Not afraid of rats or anything...I just didn't find it all that interesting. This is the first time I sat through it all. Wasn't a huge fan but I did enjoy seeing Brad Dourif and Andrew Divoff outside their main horror franchises, Childs Play and Wishmaster respectively.

Escape From Cannibal Farm (2017) A family camping in the countryside encounter sheer terror when they cross paths with a psychotic farmer and his disfigured son.
British director Charlie Steeds has got to be the most prolific horror director out there. He seems to make two or three movies per year and currently has two more projects in development. He must be a wiz at delivering his movies under budget and under schedule, because he just keeps on churning out more. I'd say he's also one of the very best working in the genre.
Cannibal Farm takes its cue from Deliverance, The Hills Have Eyes, and of course The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. The all-too-familiar premise is compensated by Steeds' skill at keeping things fresh with mulitiple surprising plot twists. Steeds also has a knack for witty dialogue and giving his richly developed characters much depth, as opposed to the one dimensional characters we've seen many times before in countless other horror movies. He also provides a bit of social commentary on the way people make important choices in their lives.
Visceral and unrelentingly brutal. Has enough torture porn material that would make Eli Roth and Rob Zombie proud.
7.5/10

The Innocents so far is my favourite first-time viewing. Quite an effective and deliberately paced gothic ghost feature, which might not be as straightforward due to the lead character’s dwindling state of mind. Repressed sexuality and loneliness seems to be sprinkled throughout, and frustration slowly eats away. Low-key in the chills, but very well acted and presented (decors, lighting, photography). As for unique… Andy Warhol’s Blood For Dracula is just so ridiculous and histrionic. Very much tongue-in-cheek horror-comedy led by Udo Kier’s very ill looking Dracula heading to Italy in the search for ‘wirgin’ blood. Amusingly stiff dialogues, sex, and outlandish blood (Kier graphically vomiting up blood after feasting on the necks of ‘pure’ daughters of a nobleman) and tacky gore (saved for its axe-frenzy climax). A film that surprised me… even though by the end it left me lukewarm. For a low-budget, straight to dvd feature Tremors: Shrieker’s Island showed creativity and stylishness when it came to the technical execution. Definitely well-made, making great use of the island locations and the CGI looked better than what I remembered in Bloodlines. And the last three films were directed by the same guy. Though the story is the weakest link, after starting strong, it really falls away and succumbs to the same old routine of the previous entries until the surprising climax. I would say it’s the best sequel since Tremors II.

Last two I've watched:
REC (Jaume Balagueró and Paco Plaza, 2007)
This was a breath of fresh air after Ouija. This one was legitimately creepy, had some wonderful claustrophobic sets and used its found footage aspects in a good way. Very good all around. 8/10
Saw 3D: The Final Chapter (Kevin Greutert, 2010)
Ah, I see they were planning to save the worst for last (yes, I know there are more now, but this was the planned end to the series). This one is just more of the same, just done poorly and in 3D. Not watching it in 3D though makes it look weird. Not only does random stuff fly across the screen, the actual picture quality looks off 9almost made for TV looking) and the color is weird especially on the blood (likely to account for the 3D glasses that would darken the screen). So it’s a lesser Saw movie that looks terrible. Awesome. 2/10
