History is not on DeBoer's side. Records of coaches who followed legends
Notre Dame - Frank Leahy (87-11-9, 4 titles) to Terry Brennen (32-18, 0 titles). 13 years before another Oklahoma - Bud Wilkerson (145-29-4, 3 titles) to Gomer Jones (9-11-1). 19 years before another Texas - Darrell Royal (167-47-5, 2 titles) to Fred Akers (108-75-3, 2-8 in bowls). 35 years before another Ohio State - Woody Hayes (205-61-10, 2 title) to Earle Bruce (81-26-1, no titles). 32 years before another Alabama - Bear Bryant (232-46-9, 5 titles) to Ray Perkins (32-15-1) 10 years to a title, 17 to another Nebraska - Tom Osborne (255-49-3, 3 titles) to Frank Solich (58-19) no championship since Florida State - Bobby Bowden (315-98-4, 2 titles) to Jimbo Fisher (83-23) Florida - Urban Meyer (65-15, 2 titles) to Will Muschamp (29-21)
And I know what you are saying "you are a fucking idiot, most of those coaches had great records". Indeed they did. Especially Akers, Bruce and Solich. But every one but Jimbo Fisher was fired or forced out. And there are exceptions. Tom Osborne replaced a legend, Bob Devaney. John Robinson had success taking over from John McKay at USC. Schellenberger to Johnson to Erickson at Miami. Bill O'Brien and James Franklin have done well at Penn State, with bonus point because none of the other coaches had to fix the fucking disaster they did. DeBoer could be another Tom Osbourne. But history is against him

Who takes over at Washington? Arizona HC Jedd Fisch. He did a nice job with the Wildcats this year, 10-3. They were 1-11 in his first season
