The Mets are taking on the ChiSox this weekend. Anything short of a sweep would be a massive disappointment, but luckily the Mets are throwing perhaps their most disappointing pitcher, Tylor Megill, out there this weekend. He's such a useless shlub. He's like a shittier version of Mike Pelfrey, who also was enormously disappointing.

It was a brutal loss, after a valiant come back. Diaz doesn't do well, from what I have seen, coming in the middle of the inning.

Yeah, that was a tough loss, but Arizona has been playing A+ ball since the break, and they are particularly tough at home and late in games. But yesterday was awesome. The knock on Diaz this year has been he seems to be too in love with his slider, and favors it over his fastball. Don't get me wrong, his slider is fantastic but it has to be set up by the fastball, which is truly electric. Yesterday, he only threw one slider and was otherwise just all heat and the D-backs couldn't touch him. If he keeps doing that, then he should round back into shape and the Mets really REALLY need him to be top tier given that the rest of their bullpen kinda sucks.

Had to look and see if Timmy Lupus and Rudy Stein were really on the field Back on the old IMDb Sports Board I found a baseball nerd website that had all of these oddly scored plays through baseball history. Because every once in a while something weird happens, and they had a bunch of them, but I could never find the site again.

I don't think so. Something like that, very minimalist, except it was nothing but oddly scored double plays, rundowns, scoring plays where the ball gets away, etc.

www.retrosheet.org/strange.htmIt would have been something very much like this with a list of strange plays, but focusing more on how they were scored on the score card. Very strange scoring.

www.mlb.com/news/crazy-baseball-double-playsThese are some of the most unusual double plays in history August 18th, 2024 Thomas Harrigan @harriganmlb - Although double plays are commonplace during baseball games, many are far from common. Some involve wacky infield alignments that result in unique rundowns, while others start in the outfield. One such double play came on Sunday, when the Marlins turned a unique 8-9-4-2 double play that began with a great catch by center fielder Derek Hill and was relayed to two players before it reached catcher Nick Fortes at home plate to tag the Mets' Mark Vientos. With that in mind, here's a look at some of the wackiest double plays in baseball history.

There's going to be a good NL team who misses the playoffs. Padres, Diamondbacks, Mets, and Braves are all at least 13 games over .500. One of them is not going to make it. And while I see that the Padres have a 95.8% chance of making the playoffs, they are only three up on both the Braves and Mets and still have series against the Dodgers, Diamondbacks, and Astros to play. That 95.8% isn't giving me a lot of confidence.

Aaron Judge already with more than 50 homers and Shohei Ohtani a near lock for 50 (47 now). Near as I can figure, it will be the first time since 1961 that two batter will have 50+ in one season without a chemical boost. There were five in 1998, McGwire, Sosa, Junior, Greg Vaughn. only one is beyond suspicion. Maris and Mantle in 1961 and Hank Greenberg and Jimmie Foxx in 1938

For the second time in 3 weeks, Blue Jays' starter Bowden Francis took a no-hitter into the 9th inning....and lost it on a leadoff homerun. Putting aside how awesome Lindor's homerun was yesterday, that's an incredible accomplishment. Toronto hasn't had a ton to cheer for this year, but it was good to see the fans give him the ovation he deserved as he walked off the mound.

My opinion that nobody asked for - yeah, Lindor has been amazing this year. He has carried the Mets from a dumpster-fire season back in May to firmly entrenched in the playoff race. He has been the guy, the straw that stirs the drink, a superstar playing at a true superstar level in ever facet of the game and has been a tremendous leader for their young players, Mark Vientos in particular. Whether they make it or not, Lindor has been outstanding and deserves accolades.
Perfect for #2 in the MVP voting.
Even if Ohtani gets hurt and misses the rest of the year, he's the MVP, I don't care that he's never played an inning in the field. Assuming that he stays healthy these last few weeks, the idea of Lindor winning the MVP over a guy who has a 50-50 season is insane.

There's probably no specific protocol for this, but I'm surprised the ump didn't say something. I guess he can't stop players from screwing themselves over, it's not like the other team was cheating. I'd say his career is over, but as he's hitting .200 in A ball, I think it already was and he knew it. What an asshole.
