…and why?
I walked out on Dune: Part Two. Made it through an hour of the film before finally getting bored with confusion because I didn’t understand the plot or see the first one at all.

I’ve never walked out of a movie. I’m too cheap.

I’ve never walked out of a movie. I’m too cheap. Me too. Might as well withdraw money from the ATM, throw it up in the air and walk away.

I guess you won't see what might have been. The only time I ever walked out was Cars 3. It was a free screening and I too hadn't seen the first (or second) one but I thought it was a real slog. Though I ultimately went back in because I was with someone and they weren't leaving.

I have walked out of a handful of movies for different reasons (one time I was sick), but not in a while.

Never have walked out of a movie, but there has been rare occasion where I really thought about it.

I have walked out of a handful of movies for different reasons (one time I was sick), but not in a while. Oh! That reminds me, I walked out of In the Heights because I developed some horrible stomach ache. I could barely walk and thought I was gonna shit out my soul. Never experienced something like that before or since.

How is that different from throwing your money away? Because I gave the movie a chance. By your definition of throwing money away it would have been throwing it away anyway if I hated what I was watching and stayed to finish the movie. So now I have both wasted my money and am now sitting in the movie being mentally tortured as well. Slight exaggeration. You can do the same thing with a meal. It was already a waste of money to buy a sandwich from someone and the sandwich tasted like shit, but to then finish eating the sandwich would mean you wasted your money AND then kept eating a shit sandwich.

How is that different from throwing your money away? I think maybe the difference between me and most people is my response to driving to the cinema, paying 10 bucks to see a movie I was anticipating and then sitting there watching this disappointing movie gets a more extreme response from me. Those 3 factors together fill me with anxiety and anger. I don't want to sit in a cinema just wallowing in annoyance and boredom. It is so bad it distracts me from paying attention to the movie anyway. The "wasting" of the money is the least of my annoyance in that case. I would have been less bothered if 10 dollars just fell out of my pocket somewhere, which has happened to me.

Never experienced something like that before or since. It was actually similar for me, but not as extreme. It was sort of my fault though, because I went to the movie already being sick. It is just that the sickness got worse while at the cinema. It was a stomach ache that caused me to leave.

Did you really give the movie a chance if you didn't stay till the end? It could have gotten better. Also if you ate the shitty sandwich then you didn't really waste the money. You may have tortured yourself to finish it, like staying for a bad movie that never improves, but you still paid for a product and saw it through to the end.

That's fairer, though I can't say I'd be less bothered if I just magically lost 10 dollars. That would piss me off.

Giving a movie a chance is watching half the movie. The sandwich example was eating part of the sandwich, not the whole thing. I don't walk out of movies that are mediocre to me. I walk out of ones I am really by what I am watching.

I was getting a headache watching that movie. The cinematography and editing was driving me up the wall. 1 hour into the movie I just had enough. I should have known better too, because for me Moulin Rouge is one of the most obnoxious and boring movies I have ever seen.

I walk out of ones I am really by what I am watching. That seems awfully far to get into a movie and walk out though. Don't get me wrong, if you're walking out half way it must really suck or you must be really agitated by it, but surely the theater's going to say you've been in there long enough, no refund.

That is also fair, though my inclination is to say that's a medical situation. Then again, I hate waste to the extent I probably would stay in a theater unless I really had to leave, as in my body is leaving even if I don't want to. I'd also try to give someone else that shit sandwich because the only true way to waste it is throw it out. I hate waste. I'd also be pissed about losing ten dollars.

I don't expect to be refunded. Movies are a chance you take, though I am usually pretty good at picking movies I think I will like. I have seen hundreds of movies at the cinema and only have walked out of 4 due to the movie putting me in a foul mood. One interesting example is War Horse. In this case though I would have finished the movie had I not went into The Adventures of Tintin which started 10 minutes before I left War Horse. War Horse I stayed only for 30 minutes. I don't hate the movie and have since finished it, but going into Tintin was a much more enjoyable experience than what I watched of War Horse. So in this case there wasn't any wasting of money, because I still only paid for one movie.
