Is anyone else hoping that Homecoming has a little bit more wire work and practical stunts than CGI Spider-Man swinging around? Don't get me wrong, I love the Prince of the MCU either way but it feels like it is time to let up on the pixels a bit. 90% of the "Amazing..." franchise was a CGI Spider, a convincing one but, CGI nonetheless. This just looks so great to me.
I hope it's real.

I think it's real. Might be CGI enhanced, like the glass shattering from the window and maybe the glass on the floor (to avoid constant redressing), or even Spiderman bursting through said window, but Peter sliding across the floor is real.

Wasn't he CGI pretty much the entire time in Civil War? Even when he was just standing there?
Or maybe it just looked that way...?

The cut to him with the mask half off (after the airport battle) is so jarring because it's one of the few times he's wearing the real mask/suit.

I think he looked real in the terminal because of the lighting. They should've added texture to the suit. The smoothness of it makes it look more cartoonish. The previous suits all had some fine detail which made them look more believable in CGI. They also looked less flimsy, rubbery as opposed to Holland's thin cloth. MacGuire's suit just looked way better in design and execution. Though I do like the nod to the original art work with this one.

Even if you don't like Raimi's Spider-Man Trilogy, he directed excellent wire and stunt work. He kept most of the action practical and in-camera, which made it look so good.
There was also a real suit. I hope Holland is given a real suit.

I had even said this back on IMDb boards for "Civil War" that I much preferred the Spider-man suit that was worn by Tobey Maguire in his movies as the black webbing on it was slightly raised so you could see it even in more distant shots and highly lit shots. The thin painted lines on Civil War's Spidey are hardly visible for most of the time. Like you said, adding some texture helps to make the suit look more "realistic", especially in the CGI scenes. I too felt like most of the Spidey in the Airport fight scene was just purely CGI, even though that my not be the case. It just looked that way because of the "flat" suit. I also didn't really see the logic of the shape-changing eyes. They kind of make no practical sense.

The Garfield suit especially had a sort of PVC or Vinyl quality to it that made it look too rubbery for my taste. I thought there was too much texture on it. It looked a little dirty to my eye even when it was clean. The Maguire suit was great. It had a better balance between raised texture and cloth like material. However, it suffered in the reflectivity department. The black webbing picked up light in strange ways sometimes. It's the best out of the three, slightly edging out the Holland suit but, it wasn't perfect. I admit that it's difficult to pick up fine detail on the Holland suit but, for me, it's a small price to pay for comic book accuracy, expressive eyes, and more vivid colors. I do wish the webbing pattern was a little more pronounced. SaveSave
