I have to agree with this. Forum maintenance is one thing, but TYRANNY in the guise of moderation is an entirely different thing altogether.

I disagree.
Automated system are easily abused.
And people applying for mod positions should be screened somehow. And personally if I was to become a mod I would be a very "cool" mod. I don't piss my pants when people post profanity etc etc. Not all people have surgically implanted sticks in their asses (i know a lot of mods seem to tho).

I think IMDB could have used a spot of tyranny occasionally. They were too cheap to pay for competent moderators and relied on a useless automatic system. Now we're all paying the price.

IMDb boards could have gone for 20 more years. With each newly released movie and tv show episodes, people still used to flock in numbers discussing them. It was fine.

We are all "paying the price" as you say because the heads of imdb decided to "moderate" everyone all at once because of the whiners, maybe the 'trolls', and then shut us all the hell up. Otherwise imdb would still be up. If people are too immature so they need babysitting all the time then they don't belong in places for adults to begin with, and they can't handle themselves. Tyranny is good against the evil ones and the wrongdoers. Against well-meaning people it's a tragedy.

How can someone be "too" immature for babysitting?

How can someone be "too" immature for babysitting? Maybe lack of sleep. Thank you, skribb. I hope I corrected it well.

Is there a mechanism for reporting truly heinous posts?
