I'm not into fan casting or movie ranking, the two most popular pastimes in the history of fandom it seems. What I do like occasionally doing is fantasy pitching. The DCEU kids are on their board proposing a few story ideas right now, and there's some interesting (if not altogether viable) stuff there. (I threw one in myself). My big pitch for Marvel would be a horror-themed Namor film based on The Depths by Milligan and Ribic. Despite being a somewhat heavy-handed Heart of Darkness analogue, its Lovecraftian overtones and nearly sophisticating atmosphere make for a gripping read. The story is simple. At the dawn of submarine exploration, a boat crew, lead by a hubristic scientist, seeks to prove or disprove the existence of the fabled underwater city, Atlantis. While exploring the depths, they run afoul of his Majesty - Namor, The Savage Sub-Mariner... What transpires next would be a terrifying vision of the sea prince as he ruthlessly protects the secret location of Atlantis by any means necessary - even if that entails systematically stalking and killing the entire crew. Yes, I would walk into a Marvel Studios boardroom and pitch a horror movie where the hero would maim and or kill people in horrible ways and never utter a single line of dialogue. And, what's more, you'd only get to see a glimpse of a very period-specific Atlantis. I know you're chomping at the bit to give me all of the ways in which this would not work. Fair enough but, I still challenge you to find a way that it COULD work. Oh, and, I'd also roll a truckload of gold bullion up to Katherine Bigelow's driveway to direct a Black Widow movie - carte blanche. What's your fantasy pitch, true believer? SaveSaveSaveSaveSaveSave
