or at most ONLY ONE sequel.
Jaws < Although, I'd be open to the idea of a prequel about Quint's time on the Indianapolis. Though I can't think of any actor between the ages of 19 - 21 that remind me enough of the late great Mr. Robert Shaw. The closest would've been Joaquin Phoenix but he's way too old now.
Star Wars should've ONLY had the sequel of The Empire Strikes Back. NO OTHER sequel (NO Return of the Jedi) NOR prequel.

The Terminator and T2. Those two are great together. They should of left them alone.
Also Speed and The Mask. And I agree with Jaws.

Arguments can be made for movies like Robocop and The Exorcist.
I'd also say Men in Black. The first movie was good, the sequels were not.

The Spider-Man movies should have ended with Rami's Spider-Man 2

Speaking about unecessery sequels, Edge of Tomorrow will have a sequel

Er, Star Wars is incomplete without Return of the Jedi, for better or for worse.

Inception. A sequel defeats the ending. That was a part of the fun. Remember all the rampant speculation and arguing when it was released? No? Only I took it that seriously? Cool.

Er, Star Wars is incomplete without Return of the Jedi, for better or for worse. I was gonna say, what the hell kind of an ending is Empire Strikes Back? There's a difference between a sequel that should never have been made, and a sequel that should have been made but wasn't that good. I'm not the biggest fan of Return of the Jedi, but it absolutely should have been made to conclude ESB's many cliffhangers (just made better, maybe). To answer the question, I'd say Halloween. Now, I actually like some of the sequels, but they actively hurt the first film. Michael wasn't just a slasher like Jason, he was a metaphor for evil and how it just is and always will be. The sequels have nowhere to go but to explain that evil and or kill it, which defeats the purpose.

Saw. I liked some of the sequels, but they really should have stopped after the first (or at very least the third film) .

Rocky. I enjoyed some of the sequels somewhat, but it was impossible, not just failed but actually impossible, to recapture the spirit of the original.

Just thought of another:
The Pink Panther.
None of the follow up sequels were as clever or original. The newer one with Steve Martin, UGH.

(Despite some clever elements in the remake, I didn't really like it and despised the sequel.) Because, while I think the first Pink Panther is indeed the best, there is some good stuff in A Shot in the Dark and especially in The Pink Panther Strikes Again (the opening, with Insp. Dreyfus at the insane asylum, is hilarious, for my lowbrow sense of humor, at least).

NalkarjThe multiple Pink Panther movies were, for me at least, more character spin offs from the original than true "sequels". There were some fun Peter Seller "bits" but they got so repetitive and silly. I liked him better when he wasn't carrying the whole movie. Rather like Joanie and Chachi or Rhoda on their own. The re-make with Steve (I generally like). Big mistake.
