I love it & yet I can't go better than a B+ It loses some steam with the crazy twins & them being cause for the manic ending. The teen romance angle so obviously tacked on also doesn't help.
I hadn't watched it for 20 odd years & didn't realize just how lame that teen romance thing was. Surely to get teens into theatres at the time yes? I falsely remembered things like it being more of the film... nope.
My fav moment is surely the waterskiing.

I hadn't watched it for 20 odd years & didn't realize just how lame that teen romance thing was. Surely to get teens into theatres at the time yes? I falsely remembered things like it being more of the film... nope. My fav moment is surely the waterskiing. You summed it up well. A good, and at times enjoyable summer/vacation comedy, starring one of my favorite actors, John Candy, but sadly he could not save it by himself, as the script/plot was not very solid. The teen romance felt very "rushed", like it was added into the last minute and the twins was more annoying than funny. Still some very funny moments, like the bat scene or John Candy telling the legendary story about the bald headed bear of Claire County. And also when he takes his kids out to feed/look at the bears in the park, only to have one of them sitting on the top of his car, driving off with it. 6,5/10 is my final vote. A good but not great summer, feel-good vacation adventure, that it was only a couple of days ago, I read somewhere that a Hollywood remake was in the happening.

Might have to do a little rerun of this one and Summer Vacation (1985) later on this summer, as it have been a while since I last watched them and even though none of the films is what I would describe as great movies, they have still lots of fun and nostalgic charm in them to make up for it.

6.5/10, but I’ll round it to a 7/10 for the poll.
