THat was great thanks for that. I didn't realize some of those soap operas were only a half hour at the time. It goes to show we don't really need 2,000 channels like we have now. There was more than enough on tv

Ah, yes...the good old days! This must have been a Monday night because that was the night they would show "When Movies Were Movies". I miss late night movies on free TV. Now all of the old films have been shunted off to TCM.

The only show I knew called "Thriller" is the one with Boris Karloff. We're there others?

tresix There is the possibility (though not likely) that it might have been the UK series that aired during that period (the series was made by ITC, whose shows did usually get shown in the U.S.).

EDIT: I'm consolidating these schedule threads. This previously was posted as its own thread. The Chicago TV schedule for Friday 7 December 1979. The source is the TV supplement in the 2 December 1979 edition of "Chicago Tribune". The stations include affiliates of all four networks (NBC, CBS, ABC, and PBS), plus independent stations. Prime-time has an emphasis on films, including TV movies on CBS and ABC (the PBS station joined in the fun being showing a British TV movie), while indie station WGN-TV showed a theatrical film. NBC's prime-time line-up includes the short-lived series "Shirley" and "Eischied", along with the soon-to-end "The Rockford Files". Daytime includes a strong soap line-up on CBS. Sadly, some of the shows on the schedule are lost ("Wheel of Fortune", for example, had its tapes wiped until the mid-1980s). Tucson, Arizona TV schedule for Thursday 3 February 1972. Source is the Arizona Daily Star issue for that date. All four networks (NBC, CBS, ABC and PBS) are represented, and there is also an independent station. I'm surprised that the series "NET Playhouse" was still around in 1972....NET was gone by then, replaced with PBS, but surprisingly the NET branding continued on some shows for a while. The daytime game shows are very poorly preserved, as are the soap operas (fortunately, "Days of Our Lives" is said to have been kept). I suspect local shows "Uncle Bob's Show" and "Romper Room" are long gone too. As for the talk shows, who knows? I read that Dinah Shore kept an archive of her own shows so it is possible "Dinah's Place" still exists. The national evening newscasts likely exist (a university or college taped nearly one during this period) but the local newscasts I suspect are long gone. Baltimore TV schedule for Wednesday 26 November 1975. Why Baltimore? Because of the time zone they use, that's why. Confused? Good. "Sunrise Semester" must be the longest running show that nobody has heard of (less than 5 votes on IMDb). Hey, at least it has an IMDb page, unlike educational telecasts like "Modern Supervisory Techniques" and "Fundamentals of Mathematics". Unfortunately, as mentioned above, most of the daytime shows were often victims of having their tapes erased. Happily, the tapes were kept for a several of the daytime shows, including "Days of Our Lives" and "Match Game '75". Unfortunately, PBS's Hodge Podge Lodge also had most of its episodes erased. Given that it only ran two seasons, I was surprised to see "The Mothers-In-Law" in reruns. Surprisingly, the complete series is on DVD with lots of bonus features....actually enjoyed watching it a lot. Re: Sunrise Semester--when I was a little kid and saw the listing for this show every morning, I thought it was some kind of children's show because I assumed "Semester" was a character's name (like "Sylvester") and it was relegated to the early morning hours with such similarly alliterative kiddie shows such as Sesame Street, Captain Kangaroo and Romper Room. In the summer months, the series was titled Summer Semester, and I pictured this good old Semester person romping around outside in the sunshine. Finally, when I was about 7 or 8, I decided to wake up very early and check this show out to see how much fun it was. It was a huge disappointment to discover it was just some boring show with a panel of professors droning on about physics or economics or whatever.
Hodge Podge Lodge was a great show. Unfortunately, such a show, an ecologically-minded series that exposed kids to nature, introducing them to the great outdoors, forest animals, plants, etc. would probably never make it today, when children are discouraged from even venturing outdoors.

Hodge Podge Lodge was a great show. Unfortunately, such a show, an ecologically-minded series that exposed kids to nature, introducing them to the great outdoors, forest animals, plants, etc. would probably never make it today, when children are discouraged from even venturing outdoors. People complain about kids being fat and blame it on junk food, but never look at the fact that kids today spend all the time tapping on their iPad and crap like that.

Albuquerque, New Mexico schedule for Saturday 4 October 1975. Just to explain, the film State Fair (1945) was retitled for TV as It Happened One Summer. It was not unusual for films to be retitled for TV, usually to avoid confusion with another film. Viewers in the city had all four English-language networks (NBC, CBS, ABC and PBS), plus an affiliate of the Spanish International Network (predecessor of Univision). If anyone is wondering "Have you ever checked out the shows from these schedules?", this answer is occasionally, for example I just bought "Devlin" on DVD. But you'd be amazed at how much isn't available at all. I hoped to get the cartoon "Emergency +4" on DVD, but it isn't available on such. Note: I hope the previous post, a U.S. Saturday schedule from 1975, is of interest. Saturday schedules are something I've rarely done before. Now for something else.... ...here is the Thursday 14 April 1977 TV schedule for Sydney Australia. A mix of American, Australian and British series. Four stations to choose from, three commercial (ATN-7, TCN-9, TEN-10), one non-commercial (ABN-2). Australian TV had only converted to colour in 1975, but the uptake of colour TV set ownership was rapid. ATN-7: 10:00AM - Romper Room11:00AM - Eleven AM 12:00PM - Easy to Love (1953) (strangely listed as B&W, even though the film and Australian TV were both in colour!) 2:00PM - Medical Center3:00PM - Mannix4:00PM - Batman4:30PM - Salty5:00PM - The Road Runner Show5:30PM - The Flintstones6:00PM - Bewitched6:30PM - News 7:00PM - Willesee at Seven 7:30PM - The George Burns Special 8:30PM - Police Woman9:30PM - Serpico (yes, Australia got America's bombs as well) 10:30PM - Bluey11:30PM - Plantet of the Apes12:30PM - Station close ABN-2 (non-commercial) 8:00AM - Sesame Street (which led to complaints regarding the letter "Z") 9:00AM - Educational Program for Juniors 9:30AM - Play School10:00AM - Selected Educational Programs 1:00PM - News 1:10PM - Horizon Five 1:30PM - Educational and Entertainment Items for Schoolchildren 5:30PM - Flashez 6:00PM - The Wombles6:05PM - Survival with Johnny Farnham 6:30PM - Bellbird (sadly, most episodes of this series are lost) 6:55PM - Gardening 7:00PM - News 7:30PM - This Day Tonight8:00PM - The Good Life8:30PM - The Of Show8:55PM - Moynihan (a Australia-New Zealand co-production?) 9:45PM - News 9:55PM - Soccer 10:50PM - Station close TCN-9 6:00AM - Gene Autry (probably one of his old films sliced and diced for the hour time-slot) 7:00AM - The Super Flying Fun Show 9:00AM - Here's Humphrey10:00AM - Dinah! (yes, Australia even got America's talk shows) 11:00AM - Another World12:00PM - The Mike Walsh Show (my mother loved this show) 1:30PM - Days of Our Lives (this show has probably appeared on more schedules posted by me than any other show) 2:30PM - The Young and the Restless3:00PM - General Hospital3:30PM - Search for Tomorrow4:00PM - The Daryl and Ossie Cartoon Show 5:00PM - Daktari6:00PM - The Young Doctors6:30PM - News 7:00PM - A Current Affair (the worst show ever produced, but maybe it wasn't as bad in 1977?) 7:30PM - Little House on the Prairie8:30PM - The Sullivans9:30PM - The Don Lane Show (unfortunately, many episodes are lost) 11:00PM - Archer (gee, another American bomb) 12:00AM - Film: Gideon of Scotland Yard (1958) (sounds interesting, but the Blu-ray is way too expensive) 1:40AM - La battaglia dei Mods (1966) 3:00AM - Humoresque (1946) 5:00AM - Film: Death Trap (1962) TEN-10 7:00AM - For Young Viewers 8:30AM - Film: Death and Diamonds (1968) 9:55AM - Religious 10:00AM - Switched on Living 10:15AM - Swami Sarasvati (yoga for viewers....quite a popular little segment actually) 10:30AM - The Farmer's Daughter11:00AM - The Maggi Eckardt Hour 12:00PM - Film: Mad about Men (1954) (I'm discovering some interesting films thanks to these posts) 1:30PM - Pot of Gold 2:30PM - Casino 103:00PM - Matlock Police4:00PM - Who, What, Where 4:30PM - Julia5:00PM - Hogan's Heroes5:30PM - The Celebrity Game 6:00PM - News 7:00PM - Blankety Blanks (Australia's version of "Match Game") 7:30PM - M*A*S*H8:00PM - M*A*S*H (this show was so huge in Australia) 8:30PM - Number 96 (a new low in cheap and nasty TV drama...but it was fun!) 9:30PM - The Box10:30PM - The Ernie Sigley Show12:00AM - Religious program 12:05AM - Station close

Sunday 7 November 1976 schedule for Baltimore, Maryland. Viewers in the area could also pick-up Washington D.C. stations, but I can't be bothered to include those.... Stations include the usual network affiliates (including PBS and its respective head), plus a very weird independent station.... Looking at all these 1970s schedules, I learned that films (both cinema and TV movies) were a heavy part of 1970s TV....not that there's anything wrong with that. Thursday 14 October 1976 schedule for Salt Lake City, Utah. All three commercial networks, and 2 non-commercial stations. Note: The reason I chose this date is because I just watched a show on the schedule: PBS's "Six Characters in Search of an Author", an adaptation of a stage play. I found it highly enjoyable. Why Salt Lake City? No real reason. I like to do different cities and hadn't done that city yet, though I admit the schedules are mostly very similar in every city. The PBS affiliate KUED had a number of local shows on the schedule, which is cool. As much as possible, I tried to link to the shows on IMDb. However, if a show appears more than once on the schedule, it is only linked to once (hence why most of KBYU's schedule isn't linked to, since most of the shows are already linked to on KUED's schedule). Some shows aren't on IMDb, and hence aren't linked to. Wednesday 30 May 1973 TV schedule for the city of Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. The schedule is a mix of American, Australian and British shows. Viewers in Brisbane had a choice of three commercial stations and one non-commercial station. Unlike in the US, the non-commercial station also showed straight-forward entertainment, such as "My Favorite Martian". Note: Australian television was still black-and-white at the time. It switched to colour in 1975. Unfortunately, some of the shows on the schedule are lost, and not just the game shows. Prime-time soap "Number 96" did not have its episodes kept until around 1975, and most episodes of the popular prime-time soap "Bellbird" are also lost. Pop music show "GTK" is an odd situation, the original video-tapes are lost, but many segments (shot on film) survive from the show. The American series "Love is a Many Splendored Thing" is also largely lost.
