Both films were released in 1999; The Sixth Sense in August, and Stir of Echoes a month later.
Sixth Sense got more press and had a wider following. I didn't even know Stir of Echoes was out there until a friend told me about it.
Both excellent films.
Which is your favorite?

Which is your favorite? The Sixth Sense is one of my all time favorite movies, with the second greatest twist of all time, behind Planet of the Apes (1968), unless i am missing other movies. I also liked the ending of The Others (2001) even though it was clearly an attempt to capture the shock value of that of The Sixth Sense. I'll be honest. I never heard of "Stir of Echoes" before until you mentioned it here. I'll check it out.

Haven't seen or ever heard of Stir of Echoes. It's good. Kevin Bacon, Kathryn Erbe, and Illeana Douglas are in it.

Didn't care about The Sixth Sense at all, in fact I thought it was borderline ridiculous. Haven't seen Stir of Echoes though I do have a DVD of it somewhere.

The Sixth Sense was an original screenplay, but Stir of Echoes was based on a book by Richard Matheson, who wrote The Incredible Shrinking Man; I am Legend, and The Legend of Hell House.
I saw both of them upon release, and outside of a ghost theme that involves a little boy, they're completely different films. The Sixth Sense is polished, has a real sheen to it, and the characters are upper middle-class (for the most part). Stir of Echoes is more working class, if that makes sense. I did like the mystery element to both of them and felt much more satisfaction in the conclusion of Echoes. That's not to say I didn't enjoy The Sixth Sense's twist, though I saw it coming when I noticed Bruce Willis' clothing. Plus, the film cheated in at least one spot.

The Sixth Sense got my vote. I saw it twice in the theater with my best friend.

Both great, but I have to pick The Sixth Sense because it traumatized me when I first saw it when I was a kid. The lady in the kitchen terrified me. I had nightmares about her for over a year. And some people say it's not a horror movie... How can it not be a horror? It fucking traumatized me! I still find it scary today. It's also very well made and acted with some really sad moments and of course the twist is excellent. 10/10
8/10 for Stir of Echoes.
