Juliette Binoche Naomi Watts Rachel Weisz Dame Judi Dench - at 82 years old, her talent is not only undimmed but at times seems to still be growing.
NEW, WITH POTENTIAL
I was somewhat impressed with Emma Stone in "Birdman." I was REALLY impressed with her much deserved Oscar winning performance in "La La Land." She looks to be very good and delightful as Billie Jean King in the upcoming "Battle of the Sexes." Looking forward to watching her career develop.

I’m going to go with Dorothy Malone and Gloria Henry. Also really liked Shirley Knight in the few features that I saw her in.

I’m going to go with Dorothy Malone and Gloria Henry. Also really liked Shirley Knight in the few features that I saw her in. Great choices, wanton. But where's the picture of Shirley Knight (glad to see another fan, btw)? How about one of her when she was the young, beautiful ingenue in Sweet Bird of Youth? And then one of her as the matronly character actress she was in films like Redwood Highway. I just love to see pictures of her and the difference in her persona over time. She's one of my favorites. My apologies spiderwort, I was somewhat rushed in my last post. I have regrettably not seen the lovely Ms Knight in the features that you’ve referenced; mostly TV series such as The Streets of San Francisco, The Outer Limits, The Invaders, etc. If you ever get a chance to see her in The Virginian, The Man From The Sea, I’d recommend it. Carol Lynley plays her homicidal twin. Ms Knight is amazing in this episode.

Oh, wanton, thanks for this gorgeous photo! And if you ever get a chance, please try to see her in her early films, Sweet Bird of Youth, The Dark at the Top of the Stairs, and maybe The Rain People. She's a wonderful actress, who has given superb performances in those films, then in roles as a the character actress she grew into, both in television and in films. But if you haven't seen her early films, you're missing something very special. (Btw, I didn't mean to make you feel rushed at all.)

I'm with Mike on all of his choices--including Miss Stone--and to this list I'll also add Marion Cotillard, who has always been at least excellent in everything I've seen her in. There was another actress whose name just escaped me, but I'll add her if I think of her name soon. EDIT: Oh, I remembered! Rachel McAdams is a remarkable actress who has unfortunately been in remarkably weak parts, with pointed but few opportunities to exercise her talent. But talented she is, indeed; Red Eye comes particularly to mind.

I could have listed her and several other actresses but stopped at four because I was already over the number called for in the O.P. My list of favorite actresses is much longer than of actors. In fact, I have not answered the Favorite Actor thread cause I can't think of one - or four - that I can call "favorite." I think "Spotlight" is the only film I have seen with Rachel McAdams. She did OK, but, as you say, she is not given a Big Moment.
