"Songs from the Big Chair" is a solid album. I particularly like the song "Mothers Talk".

I hated this band with a passion. How do you feel about them now? What changed your mind?

I hated this band with a passion. How do you feel about them now? What changed your mind? I still hate them but they're more tolerable now that they're no longer popular and I don't have to hear or see them much any more.

My favorite's always been Mothers Talk, any version of it. Don't know why that wasn't as big a hit as Shout and Everybody wants to Rule the World.

I know quite a few people like the Gary Jules cover version, but I personally prefer the original version of 'Mad World' by Tears for Fears.

Real Genius. One of the all-time great movie endings.

I played the hell out of my "Songs From The Big Chair" cassette. Then, I got rid of my stereo. With that went most of my cassettes. I should have kept that one for nostalgia purposes.
Oh well.

I hated this band with a passion. So did I. I always saw them as frauds. Phony psychological problems in order to sell records. "Shout, shout, let it all out..." Oh, just shut the f.. u.. ck up. However, I did love "Everybody Wants To Rule The World." Fantastic guitar solo in that one. And then years after they did us all a favor and disappeared off the face of the Earth, I heard this song: "Goodnight Song." WOW! First off, the guitar tone is the best I have ever heard: it just melts my ears and heart. And the song itself has a sadness of things past...it is a truly great song. I guess Tears For Fears did have some talent after all.

I love Tears for Fears. Shout and Everybody Wants to Rule the World are two of my favorites from the 80's. I also like Sowing the Seeds of Love and Who Killed Tangerine?

I own their first three albums, and while Songs from the Big Chair (1985) is the best one, (the only cut I never liked are Mother's Talk, but the rest is pure 80s pop class) and I can see what they were trying to do on The Seeds of Love (1989) (but XTC did the whole retro 60s thing slightly better) as it comes off with a fine sounding side A but side B was just not on the same level, as the songs were far too long and not specially catchy or memorable, like they either ran out of ideas, or had too many ideas and got a bit lost for coming up with great, yet simple melodies. My favorite of them are their debut, The Hurting (1983), and while it may not be as solid as the follow up, it does contains what I like to think of as some of their best work ever put on a record.
My three favorite Tears For Fears cuts, brilliant sounding early 80s synth-pop/new wave:

Indeed it is. And now I have it stuck in my head...but that's okay, because it's such a great song. One of my favourites.

Sorry for "using" your post as an excuse to bump this thread but I have been thinking of going through their first two albums again, as they really were a great band in the day, good songwriters and lots of musical talent went in to their earlier works, but the third one I just cannot get into the same way, no matter how many times I listen to it, it is good but has too much "fillers" and no enough good ones. Anyway, I would love to have a song like Head Over Heels stuck in my head. Right now I mainly have the "greats" that are kept playeing to death on radio, which means my poor ears are getting a brutal beating these days, but might have to try and repair it with some solid 80s pop-rock music by Tears For Fears: The Working Hour (1985)

Probably my favorite 80's new wave song, conjures up so many memories of walking to the beach back then and blasting this on our ghettoblasters!
I know the singles came out in different parts of the world at different times back then. In Canada, Shout was released first, and I HATED it! Then came this song, which I loved, and I had to reevaluate Shout, which I grew to love also.
