I wouldn't call The Others a horror movie. It's a ghost story. Big difference.

No, not really. Horror is horror. Ghost stories are much more subtle, in my opinion. And, after all, I AM a Senior Member now! LOL!

I consider them horror as they contain horrific elements. It's really a matter of personal interpretation.

It was spooky, but not as scary as What Lies Beneath. I caught it on ShowTime back in the summer of 2000 when I was home alone. If I had seen it in the theater I would have had trouble sitting through it because of all the shaky cam.

Uh-oh. Didn't like What lies Beneath, either. Mystery VERY easy to figure out.

Oh yeah cos you became senior member you have the eternal wisdom Horror has nothing to do with being subtle or not. Actually it means to horrify. And also it has little to do with personal viewpoint. If I could choose which movies would be horror thinking what horrifies me, very little would be horror. Gore or graphical stuff would terrify or horrify me even less.

I think kids who grew up in the 80s equate gore with horror. You can't have a horror movie without somebody being stabbed or burned alive or decapitated. Friday the 13th Part Two is especially vicious--a handicapped dude gets a machete across the face, and two kids get impaled while screwing. Just nasty stuff. To me, gore is shock. The horror comes in when you realize the person doing the killing is still around somewhere.

One of the most underrated horror movies. It's really scary especially the ending. I don't get the hate. It is not a typical movie, but I don't see that as a bad thing. I think it's genuinely scary if you watch it alone in the dark with headphones on without interruptions (don't play with your phone, let the tension build), use your imagination and put yourself in the skin of the characters.

I think why I liked it is because it reminded of the woods where I grew up. At night you'd hear all kinds of strange noises out in those woods. Who knew what it was? Probably some animal...but your imagination...especially as a kid can make it something...much, much worse.
