How many different movies have you seen? As clarified in the question this does not mean how many times have you seen a movie. If you've seen The Godfather 100 times that still only counts as one (sorry for my Lord of the Rings reference).

Edit: Upon further review, I'm going to say 2000-4000. My first estimate may have been a little conservative. The older you get, the more frightening the concept of time becomes. If I really wanted to be depressed, I'd try to calculate the time I've spent on IMDb and this site.

I know on my old account, I ranked a couple hundred shows on IMDb so it's probably somewhere around 2000 to 2100. I had an account on Everyone's A Critic that compiled it to a similar number before it shut down. God I miss that site.

Some years ago, I spent a free weekend going through IMDB's most popular movies from 1950 to now, year by year. E.g. for 1950, this is the page you get: 'http://www.imdb.com/search/title?year=1950,1950&title_type=feature&sort=moviemeter,asc' It results in about 2000 movies per year, and I went through every year giving a star rating to any movie that I could recall seeing. I'm lucky to have quite a good memory, and I can recall what I think is pretty much every movie that I've ever seen, with the exception of some random TV movies I watched as a kid, I just don't know what they are... Before beginning this process, I had already given quite a few movies star ratings, and I went through various actors/actresses movie lists just starring anything that I'd seen. This also took care of any movies before 1950 (mostly). I continued the yearly rating process going through every year until 2014 (I think, that's when I did this). It took many, many hours, but it was great fun! Eventually though I noticed a JavaScript bug which mean't that occasionally some of my ratings weren't being saved properly, so I exported my IMDB ratings to a CSV file and continued to update the list manually, as well as giving any new addition to the list a short review. I update the list after every new movie that I see. I also moderate my old ratings sometimes. The total number of movies in that CSV file, or in other words, the total I can recall ever watching is: 2231 so far. It would be much, much higher if I wasn't such a fan of video games/programming as a kid.

No idea. i seem to have rated 1,200 things on imdb, but some of those are Tv shows, and there are probably quite a few films I've seen that I haven't rated. i would guess about 1000 perhaps, maybe more.

I haven't been watching as many films the last couple years, but between the late 60s and just a couple years ago, I easily watched 500 films per year, and very few were repeats.

500-600. I have rated approximately 450 movies on IMDb, and I have probably seen about 50-100 movies which I haven't rated.

2000 - 4000I have seen over 2,100+ individual legitimate movies (i.e. strictly inline with what the OP wants to know). i know this because it's what IMDb shows i have rated and there is actually some i have seen that i don't have rated but it's not many as i would guess it can't be more than 50-100 TOPS (probably less than 50 though) beyond what i have rated. counting re-watches (along with that individual movie figure from above(i.e. 2,100+))... while i don't know the exact figure i can safely say i have seen AT LEAST 3,000+ movies. it's just a question of how far over that figure it is and that's where i start to guesstimate things but i would not be surprised if it's around 4,000 or so as if you want me to take my best guess given the info i know (some of it shown below) i think a 3,500-4,000 or so should be pretty close as even if i am underestimating the volume of movies i have seen, counting re-watches, it's got to be LESS THAN 5,000 as i would be surprised if i was wrong on that much. p.s. if you want to get a bit more detailed... even deducting movies i could not finish due to boredom (i.e. roughly 140 movies) then that figure for the topic would still be basically 2,000-ish (probably still 2,000+). so i would still claim the '2000 - 4000' vote in the topic. onethreetwo I am one of those people who claim 2,000+ because it's a fact and i am sure others around here have me beat like Darksidebeadle etc. hell, if you factor in re-watches i am WELL BEYOND 2,000. just to look at the facts, since i been logging info (i.e. Dec 27th 2011 to date) here is some movie viewing facts for me... Total movies seen in the following years (these are ALL movies i watched regardless of when they are released etc)... 2012 = 239 movies (119 first, 120 re-watch) 2013 = 233 movies (107 first, 126 re-watch) 2014 = 336 movies (145 first, 191 re-watch) 2015 = 301 movies (105 first, 196 re-watch) 2016 = 274 movies (89 first, 185 re-watch) so just in that five years of time, counting re-watches, i have viewed a total of 1,383 movies even though only 565 of them are first time viewings as the rest, which is 818 movies, are re-watches of movies i have seen before. if you want to get into the details a bit more... there is a really small amount (LESS THAN 177 movies(more like roughly 140 movies out of the 2,100+)) i could not finish due to boredom that would be counted amongst those stats above but it's pretty much a non-issue as it would not deduct much from those stats and still basically proves what i claim. so even trying to penalize me as much as possible and going strictly by the individual movie standard the OP wants to know i would still be right around 2,000 movies seen, give or take, simply because IMDb shows i have 2,164 titles rated and removing any non-movie stuff and deducting roughly 140 movies that's still very close to 2,000 movies one way or the other. i am surprised you have trouble believing someone who claims even a 1,000+ movies as that's not difficult especially when you have been watching movies for 10+ years etc. hell, like i proved above i have seen over 1,000 (when counting re-watches) in a five year time frame. NOTE: it was around the year 2003 (at this time i would have been 23-24 years old(ill be 38 years old Oct 2017)) when the general volume of movies i watched started to shoot up. counting re-watches... while i can't say for certain, i think it's plausible i have seen roughly that many movies in my lifetime simply because i know for a fact i have seen at least 2,100+ movies and that's not counting re-watches and adding re-watches it's EASILY into the high 2,000's as it's just a question of how far i am past the high 2,000's as given the info below i can safely claim i have seen 3,000+ movies if you count re-watches. because looking at the stats i posted above... solely looking at re-watches ONLY in that five year time span it's 818 movies. so adding those re-watches to the 2,100+ total movies i have seen in general that means i can safely claim AT LEAST 2,900+ conservatively and it's pretty safe to say i am beyond that given i have been re-watching quite a few movies before 2012, i just don't have exact statistics on those years though. so as you can see it's not a stretch for me to plausibly claim i have seen 3,650 movies or so (assuming we count re-watches). i just can't say for certain is all. p.s. also, not that it matters much... but you forgot leap years which would actually make that 3650 figure a bit more over a 10 year time frame as a typical year has 365 days, like you already know, but once every four years there is a leap year with 366 days. like for example... 2008,2012,2016,2020 and so on are all leap years.

I think a lot of people are overestimating. If you watched a movie a day for 10 years you'd have seen 3650 movies. I don't think there's a person in this thread that's seen that many. I highly doubt there's a person in this thread that's seen 2000. At the most, I'd consider believing someone if they said they've seen 1000. Maybe. Mayyyyybe. I said I stopped counting at 12 000 my friend, and I can assure you I wasn't bullshitting. I am 57-years-old. I grew up in South Africa where we didn't get TV until the mid-seventies, so I spent my childhood in the cinemas and tearoom bughouses. I went into the movie business when I was in my mid-20's (before that I worked as a reporter, and also reviewed movies for the newspaper I worked for). I have come to realize there are few people in the world who have seen as many films as I have The Advocate onethreetwo. Sometimes I jokingly tell people I am the Forrest Gump or Chancy Gardiner of movie watchers, but the truth is I have a pretty good head. It's taken a lot of social sacrifice and lost sleep to get to this point, but it's my passion. The quality of cable TV shows being made these days has added to my burden, but I've got the stamina and heart to keep going. And BTW I also watch some of my favorites more than once. Just yesterday I re-watched BONNIE AND CLYDE (1967) - which I first saw (3 times on the same day: it rocked my young mind) when I was 12, and SHENANDOAH (1965), and last week I re-watched THE NATURAL (1984) and THE WILD BUNCH (1969). This weekend I would like to slot in a viewing of LONE STAR (1996) - one of my very favorite movies from legendary indie wtriter/director John Sayles. 'Course I don't give a fuck whether you believe me or not. And no, I am not including rewatches in my number.
