Dark Knight Rises ... This should have been obvious. I wouldn't have done that. But I would have ended the movie about ten seconds earlier. Alfred sits down to his meal, as before. He looks up through the crowd and suddenly looks uncertain. We DO NOT cut to who or what he is looking at. But after a few moments, he slowly smiles. Cut to credits. The Devil's Advocate : Cut the whole "it was all a dream" ending.

That wouldn't make it better. That would make it just like every other (slightly lame) happy ending. Yeah, what Darabont gave us is a major downer, but I think I prefer it this way. It makes you connect with Jane and the agony of what he's done in a way you wouldn't if the marines steam in saving the day No, airborne is right. Darabont's ending may be unlike every other ending - but the unconventional path is usually the wrong one, and so it is here. You're kidding yourself if you think this makes us connect with the film any better. It comes across as a cheap "gotcha" at the expense of the audience, and I can't abide curio hunters who praise this type of stupid, frustrating move merely because it happens to be unusual.

Rear Window-- Thorwald never killed his wife (and the killing of the dog would be eliminated, too). Okay, maybe not too many people agree with me, but then I always liked the ending of Suspicion, too, as it is. Can't agree with you about Rear Window (except about the dog) - but I'm definitely with you on Suspicion.

Source Code
...Simply end it a few minutes earlier, at the moment of the freeze frame.

@graham Totally agreed on "The Devil's Advocate." That always bothered the hell out of me. The 80's remake of "The Fly." I don't know what I'd do to change it, but something about how quickly the credits start rolling has always seemed uncharacteristically abrupt for Cronenberg's usual pacing. Wouldn't change the plot points, but maybe just a little extra scene with Geena Davis doing something as innocuous as leaving the room or driving away or something. I'll get some flack for this, but "Return of The Jedi." I think Luke should have died on the Death Star when it blew up along with Vader and the Emperor. I think he'd have made a good martyr and it would have tied up his family story arc. He seems to be a lonely character with not much to do once the war is over...and Han got the girl after all. He seems like he'd just go hang around on an island like a hermit somewhere...oh wait...
I get that he's an iconic character and Star Wars wasn't meant to kill of such a character, but I think it would have been better overall for the story.

I wouldn't change the ending of Psycho, but it's always annoyed me that I knew it long before seeing the movie. I'd love to go back in a time machine with a pill that wiped it from my memory so I could watch the movie without knowing what happens. You don't have to go back in time. Just call Bill Cosby. Hey hey hey.

War of the Worlds Tom Cruise's son should have died when that mountain went up in a ball of fire.

The Breakfast Club: I never liked that Brian was the only one who didn't get a date at the end. On that note, Claire ending up with Bender after all the abuse he put her through is a bit problematic (if ever there was a time to use that word). I would have just had these three stay single. Andy and Allison could still get together, but I would have had Allison stay Allison and not get that Stepford Wife makeover to impress him.

Jacob's Ladder before the twist is revealed, Robbins looks straight at the camera and says "yo, we were gonna pull some owl creek bridge b.s. on you, but here's a song and dance instead. Someone hands him a top hat and cane, and the scene turns into a big Broadway show number sequence, and the movie ends.

Three Days of the Condor Don't change a thing. Ending was perfection, including the freeze frame.
