Cameron has a leisurely 3 years to pull it all together.

Wasn't Avatar 2's projected release date already pushed back, like once or twice already?

Wasn't Avatar 2's projected release date already pushed back, like once or twice already? It's been pushed back about 5 times now if my memory is correct. It seems like the 2020 release date is actually going to happen though.

By the time they get Avatar 2 up and filming, the main cast is going to be like 80.

Evidently Cameron is also trying to develop glasses free 3d for this film.

I really think they waited too long to make this movie. But who knows, maybe by 2020 the nostalgia will kick in and it will be a huge hit like "Jurassic World".

I think his best film remains the Terminator. He knows FX better than anyone except Verhoeven and Zemeckis are better storytellers with it. Cameron has a hokey moralizing quality that reminds me of Cecil B Demille.
Avatar had some mind blowing FX-like the flying creature free fall, but I have zero interest in re-watching it.

Well when you put it that way, now I'm interested in him doing a bible epic.

Cameron might get desperate for a new immersion gimmick this time round...if he runs out of time he might have to resort to a new version of Smell-O-Vision. Which thankfully wasn't around for the first film because I couldn't sit in a theatre watching that with the odour of shit surrounding me.

I heard/read Cameron stating that he wants to include some underwater scenes . that could be really cool. I'm sure he has a few tricks up his sleeve to get people to see this in IMAX 3D .

I can't wait.
And to all you people bitching about Cameron's uses of FX, 3D and other "gimmicks," let me remind you all that Hitchcock was also very interested in pushing 3D technology in his prime.
