According to these adjusted for inflation figures, Avatar comes in at #15

That is amazing. Wow. Oh, thanks goodness The Ten Commandments ended up ahead of it. And I would watch The Ten Commandments anyday over Avatar. Fanboys are transparent and shallow. Their obsessions cross over into aberrant delusion, and they think that everyone thinks and feels like them about the same films they are creaming their pants over, or if they don't, they believe everyone else has the problem.

lmao at finding four obscure blog posts and thinking that is gospel. Dude, face it. Avatar DOES have a very vocal minority that absolutely hates it. (Case in point, weird raptor & his E-buddies) The vast majority of movie goers really liked Avatar so it would appear that you are shit out of luck. The sequel will make bank. The vast majority of moviegoers are simpleminded sheep and ARE NOT the voice of reason. Just because something is a hit, doesn't mean it is worthy or a classic, or a masterpiece.

However, I can understand those that don't place much reverence on it and I am not about to sell it up to be something that it's not. I just liked the grooviness and glitz of it all.

But where the hell did I say that Avatar was a "classic" or a "masterpiece". Seriously, some of you mofos keep putting words in my mouth. Just simply pointing out it is the biggest box office film of all time (adjusted for inflation of course )

(Even though it has like a 7.9 rating on IMDB & 82% of RT users liked it ) Jesus dude, give it up. You are in the minority here weridraptor .

What? There is going to be a second one? My God, the first one was a complete rip off of every major scifi franchise ever and storywise it was a safe the environmwnt copy of Romeo & Juliet with a happy holywood ending.
Avatar is the ultimate proof that the masses have no taste.

They just want to keep the dollars rolling.

Avatar is the ultimate proof that the masses have no taste. Except for that racist segretation ending "must be the same race to get with someone who is different than your surface than who are you as a person" of Jake not having his lungs/stomach tweaked by genetics to breathe the air/eat/drink things on Pandora and could had been still human and Neytiri would have accept him for who he is and that would had been a moralistic ending in my view but nooo he gets turned into a Na'Vi when his avatar should had been destroyed, i mean those avatars were a waste of time and resources when they could had done genetic tech on the soldiers/people on pandora to make them breathe/eat/drink on pandora with nanite technology. Avatar like i said is Guess Who's Coming to Dinner where the black man magically turns into a white man to satisfy the racist notions of the woman he love's parents.

The last movie in the series (Avatar 5) is scheduled to be released in 2025.
Good grief!!
Do you think James Cameron is setting up a mini-career with these movies so that he won't have to worry about seeking work elsewhere before he retires?

And if Cameron wanted to make a sequel he should had done it in 2011 as it's too late for that and Avatar is no longer revelvant.

The budget for the 4 films is round $1 billion or $250M per film according to Deadline. Once marketing expenses kick in that amount will only increase.
I don't think Avatar 2 will flop, but what if it underperforms? That is why filming back to back doesn't make sense. If the movie underperforms, you can cut the budget for the sequels. You still continue but can recoup expenses / profit by cost cutting.
Also, the last Avatar film is scheduled for release in 2025. That's 8 years away. Who knows what technological advances will be made during that period? By the time the movie comes out its effects may no longer be cutting edge.

Am I the only one who doesn't care for the Avatar franchise? The first film had great effects, but the film itself was nothing special.
It made over $2 billion dollars worldwide, and didn't leave a lasting impression at all. It was THAT forgettable.
I wonder if audiences will even remember the Avatar brand? It just doesn't seem as memorable as other big franchises like Star Wars or Jurassic Park (both which had long periods in between sequels).
I just don't see these making as much money as the first film. People will likely grow tired of the series after the first sequel, and the box office will decline shortly after.
They're making a huge gamble filming these 4 sequels back to back at $1 billion.
