I hope nobody forgot this composer on his 85th birthday on 21st of June.
If you forgot, at least spare 3 minutes of your lives to listen to some of his groovy scores from movies and television the next week or so.
His most famous score today might be the theme for Mission Impossible used many times in the later variations in the newer movie series. He also wrote the Mannix and Starsky and Hutch themes.
In movies he collaborated many times in Clint Eastwood movies, but also Bullitt, The Cincinnatti Kid, Cool Hand Luke, THX 1138 , and way up to the first 3 Rush Hour movies.

The extended version of the Mannix theme is on my playlist. It's unbelievably cool. And the title theme to COOL HAND LUKE is on my list, too. Hauntingly beautiful. Happy Birthday, Lalo.

My favorite Schifrin pieces are his scores for THE FOUR MUSKETEERS (THE REVENGE OF MILADY) (specifically the 'Milady' theme) and A.D.- ANNO DOMINI.

The instrumental "Plastic Jesus" is on it. It's also beautiful but, sadly, Paul Newman's vocals aren't on it.

Schifrin's score for that film may be his most idiosyncratic and is definitely worth an examination (to say nothing of the overall movie). Schifrin's music was sleek, generally electrifying, and sometimes groundbreaking. His score for Dirty Harry (Don Siegel, 1971) combined funk, jazz, classical, opera, non-Western percussion, and proto-metal in ways that were virtually unimaginable and have never been duplicated in film. Incidentally, I have an autographed photograph of Schifrin that came with an anthology of his that I once purchased (a compendium of his scores for Dirty Harry, Magnum Force, and Sudden Impact).
