Nobody said Venom was going to show up in Spiderman movies. It can be in the MCU without that happening.
Here's the deal. They are making a Venom film that doesn't make references to the rest of the MCU, but still fits in. It's that simple.

For now, it sounds like it won't have direct references, but won't contradict anything either, and could either be ignored or included. |

That's the farthest possible point from "simple." What would be simple would be to make Spider-Man films with Venom in them or not to make Spider-Man films with Venom in them. What they're currently doing is utterly pointless and inane. It serves no ther purpose than to give Sony an artificial means of brand extension and another Marvel-IP based revenue stream. I don't recall a single Marvel fan EVER asking for a Venom solo film. |

Sony wants to make movies, so there are a couple of options. Work with Marvel, or don't. So yes, it means giving them a brand extension, and if they're going to work together to make that as good as possible then great.
I agree that nobody was asking them to make a Venom solo, but if they're going to do it, I'd rather them be working with Marvel than not, because I'm not going to care about it if it's completely on it's own, and it could turn out to be great if they integrate it.

Yes, the MCU is only what MS says it is.
No, she didn't just say it so the MCU fanbase would rush to see it. There is likely some truth to it, and they are likely working on a stronger relationship.
