So you've all almost surely heard that the snitch ruins the game. I don't think that's quite true, as it's really more about the point value being way too high for catching it. If it was worth 30 points instead of 150, it might still be ok,,,
But here's why it's fundamentally stupid.
If you've been to many live sporting events, you've perhaps noticed occasions where a beach ball is suddenly being kicked around the stands by the crowd for fun. Now imagine you're watching a great football, basketball, hockey, whatever game, but there is one team member who isn't playing the game, and instead is running around trying to catch the beach ball that the crowd is knocking around. And even weirder, if he catches it, his team pretty much wins. It has nothing to do with the game being played, and that's exactly why catching the snitch is the single dumbest rule to any sporting event ever. Why is anybody watching what's going on down on the field, if the guy running around in the stands is almost always the only thing that matters? Why are the players on the field even playing? Seriously, imagine watching a game, and the only thing that matters is the damn beach ball in the stands. It's dumb.

It's a wizarding sport so it wouldn't make sense.

It's a wizarding sport so it wouldn't make sense. Why wouldn't it have to "make sense"? I don't think the OP was debating the magical physics of the game, just pointing out that the snitch rule makes the whole thing kind of moot and nonsensical.

Exactly. Frankly, I can't fathom how they even GET the positions filled on out for each game when everything everyone who isn't the Snitch Catcher does is rendered pointless when the snitch is caught. Besides which, the only real rule the matters is "just wait for Harry's team to win."

well..........everyone knows that, the golden snitch makes every other position redundant.
if they (JK) lightly tweaked the rules, and simply wrote that the catching of the golden snitch ends the game, then it would give all positions an actual role.....but it didn't happen.

You've got to think that's going to hamper it ever being accepted as an Olympic sport...

There are actual Quidditch teams down here that run around with the broomstick between their legs and play it for real, well as real as they can get without magic anyway.

Maybe they beat the two little guys chasing the little ball senseless with their brooms so they can't score, then the rest go and play the actual game.

How do you chase the Golden Snitch without it flying around?

This series is not very well written and stuff like this is a testament to that. It felt like she just writes things down without checking whether it contradicts anything she has written before or even simply makes sense.

The snitch only renders the rest of the team in low scoring games. Don't forget: the game doesn't end until the snitch is caught. This makes for some fun strategy.
A team that's behind by 200 points would do it's best to make sure the snitch isn't caught before they have a chance to catch up.

If your team is up 13-0 you are absolutely winning the game, and then for that to be taken away from you because somebody found a beach ball in the stands, IS STUPID.
Don't give me this it only effects close games crap.
IT'S EVEN WORSE IF IT'S NOT A CLOSE GAME!!!!
It's doesn't make for fun strategy at all. If somebody is up 200 to nothing, the snitch simply becomes ridiculous. It's like having a 50 point basket from half court in the NBA. You just made your game a joke. You clearly have never played in athletic competitions.

Well that's how it should work but then Krum catches the snitch in the Quidditch World Cup final thereby losing for his team as they were more than 150 points behind.

Breathe. Relax. And remember this is a fictional game in a fictional world. I'm sure you don't have any money riding on the outcomes. A beach ball is a terrible analogy. Should've gone with golf ball. And they didn't find it. They caught it as it was being hit back and forth across the field. In any case, it does make for unique strategies. The seeker playing defense while the chasers play offense to catch up.

Guess he didn't have any faith in his team to catch up.

You already admitted it only comes to play if the game is a blowout, which is stupid. And even then it can only help the team that is getting blown out, which stupid.
Either way, it's stupid.
Just breathe, relax, and admit it.
