Could I have some feedback on a 5 minute video I did on the blood testing scene from John Carpenter's The Thing? First time I've done something like this: www.youtube.com/watch?v=FwEiYnfgedoAs in, am I making sense in what I'm saying, are the points clear, is the video a clear representation of the points being made?

The Blood Test Scene is definitely My Number 1 Favorite Scene from that whole entire movie which is also actually My Number 1 Favorite Movie.

I will watch it. Stand by.
edit: I have now watched it.
The points are pretty clear, however, I think your pauses are too short, you should allow the video clips to "breathe more", and you talk a little mumbly at times.
Also, when showcasing your analysis, don't say the movie is perfect or anything like that, it takes away from the analytical properties if you showcase your bias/praise at the same time. Also, the video clips are horrendously compressed and the aspect ratio is squashed, which makes it much harder (at least for me) to take in the scenes and connect the visuals to your presented analysis.

Thanks for the feedback. Will take into account. In regards to the last point, I find great difficulty in getting past these pesky automatic copyright flags on youtube which block the video, meaning often I have to go back and change to clip speed, crop it, or zoom to try and bypass it in some way.

I know exactly what you mean. Try seeing if you can zoom out the footage (so that everything can be seen) and add something in the background like a blurred layer of the same footage, kinda like this: I've seen people get away with that kind of workaround

Do you know how this effect is achieved, and what software is used?

Well I personally use Vegas but I guess you can use any video editing software. in Vegas: make a new video track and then copy the original clip onto that track so you have two identical video tracks, then zoom out the footage in the topmost track (using "pan/crop" tool), and keep the bottom track unzoomed and just put a gaussian blur effect on it.

I don't know why but my Number 1 Favorite Line during the Blood Test Scene came from Childs when it was his turn.........."Let's Do It".

It's actually a pretty funny scene, which is not to be disrespectful at all. From the moment Palmer starts spasming, to Needles (I think it's him) being hoisted up into the by the Thing with a vice like grip on his head, and violently shaken about the place like a rag doll, to Garry's line at the end.
Made me laugh a lot when I first saw it, in a good way.

Thanks for that man. But unfortunately I tried that on a test video and published it, but it didn't end up working.

One issue I have with that scene is the exaggerated ADR of the three guys yelling out in desperation during the fourth man's "thing" reveal. The ADR sounds like there's about ten guys yelping on that couch.
