Yes. Especially when many movies are meant to be rather shallow. There are a lot of "popcorn flicks" out there.

Some people do. Some don't think enough about what they are watching.

Do you think some people have a tendency to overthink movies ? Definitely. I have seen people reading way too much into movies. But then again, I tend to be pretty bad at reading symbolism and such in movies (which feels ironic to me because I'm intelligent), so perhaps it's really just me who is "underthinking", which is ironic in my case since I overthink everything else in life.......

Yes, some people definitely do. it's a wonder some of those kinds of people even bother to watch movies. I am not a type of person who nit picks over every little plot detail as for me it's mainly about characters and their emotions/atmosphere/tone etc and certain subject matter or something along those lines as i don't really need some complex plot to enjoy something even though that can be good here and there. also, as mentioned above with the 'popcorn flick' comment... some movies are not even meant to be anything complex and i think those who nit pick over every little detail on those types of movies then, naturally, it will be even easier for those types of people to bash em etc. Jerk Fair enough. but with that said... i would rather someone under-think than over-think a movie as some people nit pick every little thing to death and if the littlest thing does not add up they act like the movie is horrible etc. i am slightly exaggerating here but you get the idea who knows, maybe those who nit pick over every little detail about a movie might be better at writing a review on it. i just never been all that great at translating my thoughts/feelings about a movie into words (maybe at times i can be okay though) so i pretty much let my rating of a movie do the talking and since i don't hand out a billion high scores like many seem to do you can tell what truly stands out from the pack vs what does not with me. only 196 movies managed to score a 7 or higher from me out of the 2,100+ total movies i have seen which means only about 9-10% of everything i have seen is of any real worth. even being a little generous and counting my 'strong 6's (i.e. 6-6.5/10 level movies) that still only raises the total to 246 movies or about 11-12% of everything i have seen. skribbYeah, certain areas in life i would not be surprised if i over-think or slightly obsess over.

Whether they nitpick or not they obviously still love the experience of watching movies.

Some people overthink movies and some people don't realize there is anything to think about.
It doesn't matter though because the experience of watching movies is a very personal one and people don't have much control over the way they process movies.
It's only when people start criticizing how other people view movies that it becomes a problem. Some people take movies far too seriously.
I have OCD, so I totally understand obsessing over movies.

Not at all. Movies often take years to make, and are confined to generally a two hour run-time. That is a massive amount of work to unpack.
At the same tome, some people's interpretation of a movie could be massively off - but that's not the same as overthinking.

Yes some people tend to overthink movies, which I find particularly annoying when it comes to superhero movies.

YES !
Some pick movies apart so much that one has to wonder how they can enjoy watching anything at all.
Some seem to sit and actually look for glitches and goofs. Can imagine them there in the theater, taking notes.

Yep, I'm guilty of it on occasion.
Quicksilver in the XMen movies will always be a big ball of nonsensical for me.
Actually the entirety of Future Past is bumpkis, but I understand that if I turn my brain off, it's pretty to look at.

Do you think some people have a tendency to overthink movies ? Absolutely. Especially when those movies are INTENDED to be nothing more than popcorn movies. Who the fuck goes into The Mummy expecting a masterpiece? Just sit down with a pal and have a laugh.

Feologild OakesIt's not just movies that get overthought. Some viewers even get into TV shows so deeply that they get obsessive about the characters and go nuts psychoanalyzing their motives and personality quirks. Kinda scary. Especially if it's a comedy show that they are going on about. Keeps them off of the streets at night though, I suppose !
