That scary level in Half Life 2 and the chainsaw attack in ResEvil4 were the scariest moments I ever had. So those 2 games. Remember playing the demo of Silent Hill on the PS1 and that was too weird so never tried one of those games again. Mate always thought Aliens on the Amstrad 464 was scary but it didn't do it for me. Just got a little fright during the week playing Yakuza 5 when a ghost appeared.

The Thing. The Dog-Things and their ability to burst through closed doors and hunt you down.
Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets. The battle with Aragog is genuinely freaky, especially when he charges forward to bite.
Far Cry 4. The Cave of Yalung or whatever that place in the mountains was with the Yeti. Those ominous Indian whispers can haunt your dreams.

I remember that one. I never got very far in it, but it kind of had that "hostel" vibe to it. One game that stuck with me was the original Postal for PC. It was pretty primitive by today's standards, but it had a creepy vibe.

Project Zero/Fatal Frame by far. Only played the first one, but I hear the first sequel is the creepiest one. Then the Silent Hill games, and then the Resident Evil games.

Silent Hill 1, Silent Hill 2 & Silent Hill 3 Resident Evil, Resident Evil 2, Resident Evil 3, Resident Evil 4 Shivers Phantasmagoria Haunted Grounds The entire Fatal Frame franchise : Fatal Frame, 2: Crimson Butterfly, 3: The Tormented, $: Mask Of The Lunar Eclipse & 5: Maiden Of Black Water. Nothing is creepier than Fatal Frame. It has so many jump scares and all the unnerving music.

Quake II (1999) PS1 version I loved this game, really did. It was bad ass action, and the atmosphere/music and sounds was perfect and kept you on your toes all the way through. I guess playing it now would maybe not have the same impact but the screams, sounds and noises the stroggs (Alien/cyborg monsters) in the game used, I remember was very chilling and I would often play some music in the background to "drown" out the noises from the game. The strogg/alien I hated the most, was the most scary looking one, which I think was named Gladiator and it often was incredible fast moving and it took forever to kill it off if you did not have the right kind of weapon. When it took notice of you, it would make an awful sound that I think said "AAAAOOOHMYGOD!" Sometimes these mean bastards would follow you around, it did not help go hiding, they would find you and the other Strogg I really did not love coming over was the one with two hammers as weapons, and it made a sound almsot like a angry dog, when it noticed your approach.

Outlast Dead Space Layers of Fear (OK, so it's mostly cheap jump shocks and walls full of crazy, but it's still very effective) Res Evil 1 & 2 Wicked (Ancient, but worth checking out on an Amiga emulator) Rescue on Fractalus (Tap tap tap...) 3D Monster Maze (In 1981, no-one can year you scream...)
