I'm talking about roughly "Above the Law" through "Under Siege 2: Dark Territory". Discuss how good they are as martial arts movies. How much do you think they contributed to the evolution of the genre, etc.? Thanks in advance.

I can't say much about his films, other than they're corny at best, but Out For Justice (1991) was pretty entertaining.
I remember the beginning of the film being so laughably bad. When Steven Seagal's character throws the pimp through the windshield, you can tell the audio is out of sync. I'm not sure if that was intentional, or just something somebody missed. Either way, that's just one example of what makes it so awful that you just have to watch the entire film.
The obvious fake blood and gunshots is another one. You can tell the actors all have that bullet thingy inside of their shirts. Half of the time the dog is also missing in certain scenes. He'll be in the car one moment, then disappear the next.
If this was supposed to be taken seriously, then they failed miserably at that. I laugh every time I see it.

I really enjoy Under Siege and would need to re-visit some of his earlier stuff, but I recall being quite impressed with Marked For Death. Barely recall Above The Law, Hard To Kill and Out For Justice.

Have re-watched Out For Justice and Above The Law. I found both average, but still entertaining. OFJ is more full on violence wise; but ATL is perhaps the better directed.

On Deadly ground is a terrible film. The scene where the old man is tortured with a pipe cutter is horrible. The film is preachy is hell, with Segal's environment speech. Michael Caine is a decent villain. That's it though.

Of the films in this group my favorites are "Under Siege", "Marked for Death" and "Out for Justice".
