Anyone here a MacGyver fan? I've always loved the way he could get out of situations using everyday items to escape.

I grew up watching this show (quite religiously) and loved the opening credits/theme.
I was always interested to see what sort of "death" Murdoc would suffer at the end of the episodes he was in.
Seemingly random comparison, but Callisto from Xena: Warrior Princess reminded me of him in that she too would seemingly be 'defeated' at the end of every episode she was in, only to 'keep on keeping on'. I'm not sure who had the more 'deaths/defeats' out of her and Murdoc. It was really weird seeing the actor who played Murdoc in an episode of Just Shoot Me!, as he was quite funny in that.
I've mentioned this elsewhere, but MacGyver was what first introduced me to Lena Headey (technically it was the TV movie MacGyver: Trail to Doomsday) and I've been following her career ever since.
Speaking of careers, I was so happy to see Richard Dean Anderson again when Stargate SG-1 started, as previously I'd only really known him from MacGyver.

I watched MacGyver when it was on TV here in the mid-90's and I quite enjoyed it. He was a cool dude who always had a solution to every problem, and he didn't need guns to do it, just his brain. It was a good, family-friendly show to watch when growing up, and I remember it fondly.

It was a bit strange at first seeing 'MacGyver' carrying a gun every episode, but RDA was great as Colonel Jack O'Neill. He was one of my favourite characters, and I wasn't too happy when he became a recurring character in the later seasons of SG-1 instead of a regular. *sniffs*

Drat! You beat me to using that Teal'c GIF, Hirundo.
Yes, it was strange seeing RDA carrying a gun all the time in SG-1 when MacGyver was so 'anti-gun'.
When watching MacGyver, did anyone else have someone nitpicking the show the whole time when you were trying to watch an episode (basically what Sideshow Bob did to Selma when watching it in The Simpsons)?

I never really watched The Simpsons (apart from the occasional episode here and there) so I have no idea what Sideshow Bob did to Selma, but I can imagine. When watching MacGyver my dad would always comment on something if he didn't think it was realistic enough, and my mom would have her own commentary/narration going, constantly explaining what happened on the screen as if we weren't all watching the same show. Now, though, everybody knows full well they need to STFU when I'm watching stuff.

That's^ exactly what my dad did when my mum and I were trying to watch the show in peace. It was very annoying/frustrating. my mom would have her own commentary/narration going, constantly explaining what happened on the screen as if we weren't all watching the same show. Thankfully, that^ never happened at least. Now, though, everybody knows full well they need to STFU when I'm watching stuff.
Lucky you. I hadn't seen MacGyver in a very long time...until two weeks ago. They've been showing repeats here on TV, and I had noticed in the TV guide the description for the episode - about MacGyver travelling back to the time of Merlin and Arthur (yes, that happened). I distinctly remembered this episode's existence from all those years ago when I first watched it, but had forgotten the finer details of it. Merlin sure was a jerk, though MacGyver's snarky comebacks managed to make up for it. Also funny was an exchange of looks between MacGyver and the episode's damsel in distress who he was rescuing. She seemed pretty impressed by his 'MacGyvering' (and possibly a little turned on too), going by the long lingering look she was giving him, and this didn't go unnoticed by MacGyver. This was also the episode where we found out his first name. I love the show's theme just as much now as I did back in the day, and I remembered every shot of the opening credits when watching them (I guess growing up watching the show religiously will do that to you).

Apologies for not being able to answer your question as yet, as I've only recently started watching repeats beginning with the episode titled 'Good Knight MacGyver: Part 1' (which was apparently episode 7 of Season 7). My memory of the show is very vague/foggy, so until I rewatch the other seasons, I can't really form an opinion on which was my favourite, but I'll get back to you on that.

The real MacGyver (1985-1992) i loved that show when i 13-18, i have all the seasons on DVD and i still enjoy it, not as much as i did 20 years ago. But i still think its a good show.
The theme song is one of the best theme songs ever.

I watched MacGyver when it was on TV here in the mid-90's and I quite enjoyed it. He was a cool dude who always had a solution to every problem, and he didn't need guns to do it, just his brain. It was a good, family-friendly show to watch when growing up, and I remember it fondly. Have not re-watched the entire show, since back in 2009-10, when I finally got around to pick up the last few seasons on DVD, and of course, not long afterwards, the entire box-set (including the two made for tv films) arrived, for a very cheap price. Well, I had already double-dipped a few times, too many, on both classic favorite tv-shows, and several other movies, and almost did another one, with both The A-Team and MacGyver. However, I guess I still have to pick up the two MacGyver movies, as I never saw them. Anyway, the show was a big part of my childhood days, spending time after coming home from school, just switching on and there it was, all these great and fun action-adventure shows from the 80s (A-Team, Airwolf, Knight Rider, Magnum P.I.) and of course MacGyver. The very first episode that I can remember seeing of MacGyver, I believe were the very memorable and kind of scary (at least when I saw it as a kid) The Assassin, during late season 1. Of course, back then, I hear much talk of this quirky and crazy villain, who always showed up, no matter how many times he got "killed", and I ended up (for a short time) thinking that the lethal villain in the Assassin, was none other than Murdoc, but since that was my first episode of seeing the show, I soon later, learned of who the real Murdoc turned out to be. Another huge reason, to why the Assassin stood so much out, was my later (but I guess already back then, I had an immediate thing for her) crush on the sweet and lovely Corinne Bohrer, who appeared as a guest. Well, speaking of how the main star managed to overcome most of his enemies, not just by using firepower or muscles, but his brains and quick thinking and of course a little help of a certain favorite item, the Swiss Army knife. Always got a bit of laugh, when MacGyver is handing out some punches, and right afterwards, seems almost more in pain than the victim of his fists, but yeah, in real life, punching someone to the face/head, usually is a painful experience, specially if one is not much of a experienced "fighter". Anyway, I guess I have not seen a lot of tv-episodes/seasons lately, time is just not there yet, but MacGyver is surely one, I would love to find time for, as it had that feel good comforting entertainment, which suited so well, after a boring or long day at school. So if I am to return to the show, I will of course start up from the beginning, and maybe put in a few mini reviews of each episodes, including ratings of them, but when I will be able of doing so, I am not sure of right now. However, I should probably give the two movies a go as well, as I was almost tempted to pick them up, a while ago, but that was part of a movie collection, along with a few other tv movies, I had little or no interest in paying for.

This was one of my favourite shows as a kid. It ran weekdays in the afternoon, just when I came home from school. I don't think I've seen all the episodes, I certainly missed a few of the early ones and didn't even know there were TV movies too.
I've been hesitant to rewatch the series, don't know how much I would enjoy it in a more mature state, but considering that most modern TV leaves me entirely cold, I might actually take a trip down nostalgia lane and do a MacGyver marathon.

What I loved about these 80s action-adventure shows, was that you could enter into pretty much any random episode of the shows, and still be immediately hooked right onto the plot, characters and entertainment. Sadly, that is not something I have felt, for a very, very long time, but of course, a lot have changed with how tv-shows is made these days, to how it was back then. I was also quite surprised, to learn later on, that two tv movies were made, a few years after the original series had ended. Not sure if they are of the same quality or entertainment as the series, but I will sure be seeing them, sooner or later. Just got reminded, that another very memorable childhood favorite (episode), was that of seeing Randall (Tex) Cobb, going up against some sleazy enviromental baddies, leaking toxic waste into the nature, I think it killed his dog, or something, and that he played the good guy together with MacGyver, which I loved, since my memory of Randall, usually were that of him being the bad guy, due to his size and looks.

Just started watching the first season. They did a great job with the picture quality of the blu-ray, the series looks as good as new. Somehow the episodes keep reminding me of other movies. The pilot starts with Mac rock climbing like Tom Cruise in Mission Impossible 2. I had also forgotten that he provides a voice-over. There was an explosion at an underground lab and Mac Gyver is sent to rescue the trapped scientists. This has one of his most famous tricks when he stops a sulfuric acid leak with chocolate. Episode 2: The Golden Triangle is weak and formulaic. Mac travels to Burma to retrieve a poison-filled canister from a crash site. This is like a PG version of John Rambo as Mac helps some poor enslaved villagers fighting a druglord and evil militaries. I had to laugh at the end when the bad guy trips, falling ito his own sword. Episode 3: Thief Of Budapest sends Mac Gyver to the Hungarian capital to get his hands on a pocket watch containing secrets on microfilm. When the watch is stolen by a young gypsy girl Mac saves her from the communist police and they go on the run. This ends in a car chase reminiscent of The Italian Job. According to the imdb trivia section they even used footage from that movie.

Not sure if I am gonna spend money on re-purchasing every season, but who knows? Yeah, from what I remember (from my last visit of the earliest season/episodes), I think they actually provided lots of footage from other films, specially the car chases (some which might have come from The Italian Job with Michael Caine?). Loved that you include those fun tricks of MacGyver, using chocolate, chewing gum and other "random" and helpful stuff, to save the day. Your post, kind of makes me want to start seeing a few episodes, but sadly, I am a bit into continuing on, getting through far too many of my impulsive purchases on DVD/Blu-rays, and need to get through more of them, before I start purchasing more. Also have stock of unheard music albums in the wait for me, as well. However, MacGyver might be more suited to the spring/summer time, and might try to pick up on it, at least a season or more, and see if it catches on.

Loved this show when I was a kid but started rewatching with the family awhile back and we never finished S1. The pilot was great but the rest didn't really hold up.

I love Richard Dean Anderson's MacGyver. Only saw bits of the remake series--didn't care for it. Although, I'm currently watching NCIS: Los Angeles (about to start Season 6), and I understand they have a crossover episode at on point, so I'll probably be watching at least one episode at some point.
One thing I really love about the classic series was Randy Edelman's score--my favorite being the countdown music heard in the opening sequence of the Pilot Episode and once or twice during the first season. I also enjoyed how the intro music in the early seasons was synced with the montage. I was disappointed when they got away from that in the later seasons.
