It is pathetic that this is the last resort for TFA haters.
Spielberg turning Star Wars down is a bit inaccurate. Actually, Spielberg was Lucas first choice to direct ESB, believe it or not. The directors guild got involved for some reason so Lucas had to scrap that, and went with his old college teacher Irvin Kirshner instead. Also, Spielberg did direct the lava light saber duel in ROTS. True story. He did turn down the Disney movies though.
It is pathetic that this is the last resort for TFA haters. Absolutely pathetic. It even says in the statement that the movie made back its entire production cost in its opening weekend for crying out loud. What more does one need? If becoming the 3rd most moneymaking movie of all time isn't enough then what is?
Didn't that have something to do with Lucas refusing to use opening credits in his Star Wars films?

^^^^ I told you we should have switched out his protocol programming. He thinks speaking with meatbags and overhearing someone on a radio constitutes evidence. Remind me to rewire his circuits to understand the difference between testimony and fact.
We should also consider upgrading his analysis processors. He somehow equates not maintaining the same sustained track after opening box office as the two biggest films ever with failure. He also conveniently disregards opening weekend gravy like it doesn't matter. "It was only the third most-sustainable movie ever, thus it wasn't really universally-loved," is what his vocal processors seem to be saying, but this must be a malfunction.
These malfunctions are currently resulting in totally inaccurate perspective. But then again, what do you expect from a droid?

Well, in all fairness, the franchise started with an indie director. I think Disney is trying to keep the franchise at its "roots", but they may be reconsidering now that this whole Solo fiasco happened. Weren't these guys hired, in part, because Lawrence Kasdan highly recommended them? I don't know if that's true. I've never heard that before.

Didn't that have something to do with Lucas refusing to use opening credits in his Star Wars films? Yes, his trouble with the union goes all the way back to that reason, and Lucas' eventual withdrawal from it out of protest. This has brought about a few changes to the Star Wars franchise. Examples: - Lucas tried to get several screenwriters to co-write the PT with him (including Frank Darabont) but all had to turn him down due to the Hollywood unions - Gary Oldman originally was going to play General Grievous but he had to withdrawal after he learned Lucas was using non-union actors in the movie The part about Spielberg turning down Star Wars due to the union is false though. He's always stated that he prefers not to be hands-on with the franchise.

Statement: I have already stated that TFA was a box office success, meatbag friend. The point in question is was it universally loved. The statistical data that I submitted of box office drop off was addressing the point of whether it was universally loved. Statistical Interjection: Did you know that The Phantom Menace was the # 3 box office film all time at the end of it's theatrical run? Just like TFA. I supposed you're going to tell me that TPM was and is universally loved. Rhetorical Commentary: Meatbags (sigh)... I suppose comprehension and communication problems are inevitable with all that constant sloshing of internal organs going on. I guess it's a droids lot in life to deal with such things. We were made to suffer.

Droid, pull up comparative analyses of TPM's week-by-week box office vs. TFA's week-by-week box office and tell me if you observe any statistical anomalies between the sustainability rating of each.

What is that, some kind of silly Star Wars insult?

Statement: Yes. I heard the same thing. Thank you, meatbag friend. Meatbag friend? What is that, some kind of silly Star Wars insult? Apprised Explanation: Fellow Star Wars enthusiast, if you are bored and have some spare time to kill (assassin droids love killing time)... research HK-47 on Wikipedia and Wookieepedia. Then go to YouTube and search 'HK47 meatbag'. This should give you a well rounded appreciation of the term. Additional References: Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic. Star Wars characters\droids\assassin. Additional Commentary: In short the context around the term implies whether it is meant as an expression of friendly endorsement or as an insult. Interjection: HK-47 signing off!

Acknowledged Interjection and Appeasement: Well done, meatbag friend! Your notation of statistical data is most impressive! As is the level of topical relevance. Summarization: The label of being "universally loved" is still somewhat a matter of (ahem) subjectivity. Especially considering documented criticism, social media input, and the wonderful meatbag gift of... perception.

yes, but the producers need to actually get on the right page with the director and their vision first.
....but directors also have to play ball with the studio since they are funneling money into the film.

Log this into your memory bank: TFA is not universally-loved. The only two SW films that seem to be nearly-universally-loved are ANH and TESB. On the other hand, TFA was demonstrably a success and its success isn't just financial. I know the future is a difficult concept for a droid, but TLJ's box office will help provide more concrete statistical links to TFA's creative success. My advice is to power down until December and see. We'll get you an oil bath in the meantime.

Kathleen Kennedy is an albatross around the neck of Lucasfilm. Until her tyranny comes to an end, Star Wars will continue to be shit. Before the dark times. Before KK.

LOL. Star Wars fans are so hyperbolic. Yes. Just about every fucking director in the world wants to work on Star Wars. I know that Kennedy bashing is ubiquitous on these fan sites, but y'all are living in your own little galaxy when it comes to how Star Wars is perceived, how Kennedy is perceived, how Disney is perceived, etc. Outside of these sites, TFA was wildly successful, the creative teams are wildly lauded, Disney's takeover is a good thing and yes, every director, line producer, writer, actor, key grip and best boy in the world is salivating at a chance to be part of the Disney Wars Machine. Translation: "This franchise is now the ultimate power in the cinematic universe! I suggest we use it. Don't try to frighten us with your EU-reading, prequel-loving ways, colden. Your sad devotion to the ancient religion of Actual Star Wars Fandom in lieu of 'Disney Princess'-ism, bandwagonism, and general mediocrity has not helped you conjure up the leaked script for TLJ, or given you clairvoyance enough to predict the Han Solo movie's box offi --" Well. I find your lack of faith disturbing.

I like the EU, too, but it was a necessary evil getting rid of it if you are someone who is of the mindset that Star Wars needed to carry on in film and that it shouldn't be beholden to storylines presented in the post-ROTJ EU. I'm of that mindset.
