Even if any of this were more than idle armchair speculation, none of it is a problem if you are a fan of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Sony's "mistake" is our gain. #MMM

Spider-Man: Homecoming seems to be a "huge success" (although it may not track much better than Amazing Spider-Man despite Iron Man cameos), but it is clear that Sony (Amy Pascal) have little afterthoughts about the particulars of their deal with Disney/Marvel. According to this deal, Sony will get all the profits of Spider-Man movies while Disney/Marvel will get the profits of Avengers movies featuring Spider-Man, as well as the merchandise sales of all these characters. Making this deal, however, puts Sony at a huge disadvantage: 1. Sony is at the mercy of Disney as it depends on nothing other than the box office of Spider-Man movies, which may not make more with every successive film because of several reboots. Disney/Marvel also have no obligations to help Sony reach a certain box office number as they already benefit from the merchandise sales. 2. Spider-Man being in the MCU means that he cannot appear in any spin-offs at Sony, including Venom and Silver & Black. This is because (A) Disney do not want to help Sony make more than 3 Spider-Man movies, and they also do not want a competitor to make more than that to rival their own in-house superhero movies; (B) Disney do not want characters like Venom in the MCU movies, for the same reason their violent Marvel characters are also reduced to getting Netflix shows only. One careful enough should notice that Tony Revolori is cast by Marvel as Flash Thompson, essentially blocking Sony from using a proper Flash Thompson for their Venom. Sony was not far-sighted enough to realize this very logistical issue. 3. Sony does not earn any "reputation" from this deal, as Spider-Man: Homecoming is seen as a Disney/Marvel movie without any Sony's input. Sony will, however, be blamed for more because they are moving forward with Spider-Man spin-offs. It is why Spider-Man: Homecoming looks good on paper, but one should be raising their eyebrows right now at this deal with all the above mentioned problems. None of your points are correct IMO. Sony can eventually take the character back if they choose so they aren't at Disney's mercy, Pascal has already said it's possible for Spidey to appear in Sony films, and Sony does earn a reputation from the results.
I really am not sure how you came to those conclusions.

Sony pretty much had no choice but to share Spider-Man. The Amazing Spider-Man 2 was the lowest grossing film in the franchise, and Sony has been in a pretty desperate financial situation for a while. Letting Spider-Man join the MCU was the only sure fire way for them to guarantee that their next Spider-Man film is a hit.

Wasn't Amy Pascal's incapacity for abstract thought already apparent at this point?

who the fuck cares about Sony? This is the point of this analysis. Just because you do not care (even though you care to comment anyway) does not invalidate my arguments. I care about marvel, not Sony. Sony could go right ahead and shut down their film department and I would be more than happy with marvel obtaining the full rights. So if your "analysis" (I use that word in the broadest meaning) favors marvel I repeat: who the fuck cares about Sony?

I'll help you: this is the Marvel Cinematic Universe discussion board, where we can say things like "who the fuck cares about Sony" and you freely can reply "I do". Or say anything else you like. Thinking is clearly hard for you.

Maybe you have not made up your mind whether Spider-Man, Venom, and other Spider-verse characters are even Marvel characters who can be discussed freely on a Marvel discussion board. If there is a "rule" that only allow MCU movies to be discussed in this board (which I have never heard of from anyone on IMDB), perhaps some should start moving their X-Men and Wonder Woman threads to the X-Men and DCEU boards respectively. you don't understand: you can say whatever the fuck you want and I can say whatever the fuck I want. Go ahead and deconstruct whatever you feel like, but expect that some of us will reply and just say that was stupid. Embrace it or ignore it... It's really your choice. I'm just still waiting for a response though, instead I'm all Tangled in a discussion about things that vex you and I don't give a fuck. it's not a hard question, really... Who.the.fuck.cares.about.sony.

Sony shouldnt have gone in the movie business in the first place. They should have stuck to their electronics and they would probably be still no.1 in that world.

Who.the.fuck.cares.about.sony.The premise of this thin piece of corporation fetishism (disguised as analysis) is that someone cares about Sony as if it were an actual living, thinking and feeling entity. It isn't. I can't shed a single tear for Sony regarding any missed opportunities or tactical blunders. I wouldn't do that for any corporation (unless I owned stock). That would be like worrying about what color socks Alec Baldwin plans to wear two weeks from today. Who gives a fuck? Obviously, the OP does give a fuck and, judging by the length of the post, he or she gives a deep fuck about Sony and its fiscal health and well being. Maybe this searching missive should have been posted to a Sony lovers board? It's fascinating - Fox and Sony seem to have brainwashed their constituency into caring more about their health and well-being than the actual (Marvel) product they produce. I am a fan of Marvel comic books and characters FIRST. I am not a "fan" of wealthy corporations who are unaware of my existence. They are here to serve me and my need to consume. This is a board for fans of a franchise which exclusively features Marvel comic book characters. In other words, for those who don't know where you are, welcome to the capital city of the new Marvel empire. For those of you who are Fox/Sony separatists. You've lost. Although we prefer that Marvel Studios handle it's own IP, so long as the licensees ship good product - there is no competition - the Marvel Universe and its characters will proliferate and thrive. No, Sony's biggest mistake was thinking a shared universe built around Spider-Man could work out in the long run and try to turn The Amazing Spider-Man 2 into a giant commercial for it, the end result was the lowest grossing film in the franchise with its star ending up being screwed out of his contract because how dare he be critical of their silly business practices. In addition to that, the end result - a series with no proper ending.
Sharing the movie rights with Disney was just for the best, the character can benefit from interacting with all those other characters from heroes to villains, the only issue is that Sony wants to still go ahead with a shared Spider-Man universe that is distanced from the MCU with Venom and Silver & Black. Nobody wants these movies to happen, not just because a good deal is already in place that allows Spidey to be in the MCU, but because these characters cannot really sustain themselves without Spider-Man. Spidey is very critical to Venom's origin especially, otherwise he's just Venom-in-name-only. Sure, Sony can say "well they are stand alone but they'll be so small in scale they won't affect the other or demolish what is establish what's been established in the MCU..." but thing is these are pretty larger than life characters, unlike The Defenders they don't just operate a street level. Its just not going to work out well for everybody in the end...

Apparently, someone is trying to camp on this sinking island with her minions and making house rules as if she owns it. But do not forget that every discussion board at IMDB is open to everyone, and that having a range of in-depth discussion is what made IMDB flourish, whether you are interested in it or not. Oh you are welcome to discuss. And I am welcome to disagree with you right? If Sony were to stop producing movies and sell the full rights to Spider-man back to Marvel that would be in both companies best interest. Sony could go back to do what it does best. Make awesome electronics. They were no.1 but Samsung is now. And Marvel could do what they do best, get the best of their most iconic heroes. And actually Fox should watch and learn. I have seen the same old dance between M & X a few times to often. They should still dance but to a different tune. But hey, you are welcome fo disagree with me. After all the MCU's success still remains to be seen...
