If they do, all pricing changes will be anti-consumer.

No.
If you would have asked me back before debit cards were commonplace, then I would have voted yes. Since most of what I purchase comes directly out of my bank account, it doesn't bother me as much as it used to.
I'm afraid if they did do away with pennies, then businesses would just round up to the nearest five cents on their products, i.e. $1.01 to $1.05. Four cents can make a difference to some people living on a budget.

I'm in favor of keeping one-cent denominations. I like the penny, but I would understand if if were made into a bill. In fact, I'm not sure why we have any coins today.

Four cents can make a difference to some people living on a budget. I don't see how that can be so. Very few goods are advertised as being just over a round number - things are far more likely to be advertised at 99c than $1.01, to put it in the "under a dollar" category in people's minds and make them more likely to buy it. If the 1c was scrapped it's more likely that some things would round up to an even dollar, or 5 dollars or whatever, whilst others would round down to the nearest 5c. It's madness to manufacture coins that cost more than double what they're worth.

If we did not have the 1 cent coin, people couldn't sell all that stuff on tv (cookware, exercise equipment, jewelry knock-offs, etc.) for $19.99 or $29.99.

No. You can never be exact enough. We should even have tenth cent coins to make sure gas stations are giving us a fair deal.

No they don't need to discontinue it, they simply need to stop the ridiculously repetitive pricing of things at .99 cents all the time. The amount of unnecessary change a person gets back and rarely uses can be a pain in the ass.
