Kong: Skull Island
Cert: 12A
Director: Jordan Vogt-Roberts
Starring: Tom Hiddleston, Samuel L Jackson, Brie Larson, John Goodman

King Kong lives! Literally. This is an amazing action/adventure film with some great creatures and a very fitting tone for a monster movie.
The first major character we meet is a younger version of John C Reilly's Hank Marlow, who crash lands on the island during the Second World War. He battles with a Japanese soldier who also crash landed on the island for a few minutes before they both came face to face with Kong himself. This scene really sets the tone for the film and it gives us a glimpse of what the rest of the film will be like.
We then meet John Goodman and Corey Hawkins' characters. "There'll never be a more screwed up time in Washington" mutters Goodman about the Vietnam peace protests. They then ask for a mission to an uncharted island surrounded by a cloud storm, which hints at even more tension later on in the film.
Then we meet the gang: Samuel L Jackson (inevitably) and his army, Brie Larson in a darkroom, and Tom Hiddleston in a Chinese bar, who is briefed about the mission by Goodman and Hawkins.
Then after that that everything comes together. The gang are briefed about their mission and they go in there and drop bombs to get seismic readings, only, Kong appears and destroys the fleet of helicopters and leave the gang stranded and separated across the island.
Jordan Vogt-Roberts gives us a proper monster movie here, with the first act spent on developing the characters and the mission, the second act giving us the arrival on the island and a full look at Kong, and the third act giving us the escape mission, and some cool creatures, including an octopus like creature in which Kong wrestles with, and a peaceful deer-buffalo like creature in which Hiddleston and group encounter, and of course the Skull Crawlers, the creatures that killed Kong's parents when he was a baby. And of course we also get Kong, and a little glimpse of Godzilla in a post credits scene, Roberts gives us a lot. A lot to build up to Kong v Godzilla, the upcoming long awaited battle between the two creatures, after Godzilla: King of Monsters.
Overall, a thrilling, action packed creature feature. Jordan Vogt-Roberts gives us a full on, occasionally funny, monster movie. Worth the watch, you'll have a blast.
