CINDERELLA MAN? Uhh, when are you going to realize that that film is actually less realistic than STAR WARS: ROGUE ONE? I'll give you one factoid the film conveniently left out. Jim J. Braddock - as depicted in the film, a saintly man of the people - actually agreed to fight black man Joe Louis only if Louis signed over 10% of all his future earnings to Braddock. True. But Ron Howard didn't put that in his film. Didn't want know-nothings like you to see what a real scum bag the Cinderella Man really was. CENDERELLA MAN happens to be the single worst sports film ever made...and this dope has it as the second best sports film ever made. I can't make this up, folks.

I can't make this up, folks. watch the clip vs. Art Lasky - the greatest inspirational clip in cinema history spare me the speech on 'based on a real story' vs. 'real story' - i got news for ya Ace - 8 Men Out and 'The Babe' weren't 'factual' either. newflash - there's no Santa Claus either Tiger. i don't watch Star Trek/Star Wars 3 hour dorkfests Bub - and couldn't tell you Spock from Han Solo we're talking sports 'movies' here All-Star - not Mother Teresa's Bibliography or the latest Dorkfest Sci-Fy Geekfest. Capiche?

spare me the speech on 'based on a real story' vs. 'real story' - we're talking sports 'movies' here All-Star - not Mother Teresa's Bibliography So you would be happy if they made a film about Tom Brady and he was portrayed as a baseball player. Got it.

Got it. i'd be happy if the real Marco was here - because this 'Marco' is like Andy Garcia trying to ripoff Robert Deniro..............

Murderball Rocky A League of Their Own Win Win Slap Shot --------------------- Catching Hell North Dallas Forty Breaking Away Horse Feathers Requiem for a Heavyweight interesting list. i'm going to have to look up some of them. and i never gave 'a league of their own' a chance because of the premise just like 'Million Dollar Baby' - i'm a huge Hanks fan - think i'll have to give it a chance. i finally gave Million Dollar Baby a chance since I'm an Eastwood fan and enjoyed it

Hard for me to see Raging Bull as a "sports" movie. It's about a boxer rather than boxing if you know what I mean.

Top 5: Eight Men Out The Longest Yard (1974) Vision Quest North Dallas Forty The Bad News Bears (1976) Decent list. You should have SLAP SHOT in top five. LONGEST YARD is weak. Your choice of VISION QUEST is interesting. Top five greatest sports film? Nah, but it definitely is an overlooked sports film. Also, excellent call on NORTH DALLAS FORTY. Hard to find a more accurate depiction of the pro athlete's life than this film. And, yes, THE BAD NEWS BEARS is the definitive sports film. Everything about sports - the joy, the tears, the hatred, the the lunacy, the ineptitude, the greatness, the camaraderie.... is perfectly captured in this film. Remove EIGHT MEN OUT and LONGEST YARD and put SLAP SHOT and HOOSIERS on your list and you have a near perfect list. Can also throw in the oddest sports film ever filmed - Steve McQueen's LeMANS. Nothing at all like that one.

In no particular order:
The Natural The Wrestler original Bad News Bears Hoosiers The Fish That Saved Pittsburgh
Raging Bull and Caddyshack would be on the list but I don't consider them to be sports movies.

1) Green Street Hooligans 2) Last Boy Scout 3) Mr. Baseball - enjoy watching with wife, who laughs at some of stuff they do in it. 4) Any Given Sunday - Another over the top movie, but enjoyed 5) Above the Rim - unrealistic but funny to watch
