1. Rocky 2. Rocky 4 3. Rocky 2 4. Rocky 3 5. Creed Nice to see Rocky IV getting some love - when Apollo goes down it's gut wrenching.

Hard for me to see Raging Bull as a "sports" movie. It's about a boxer rather than boxing if you know what I mean. One can argue the same about Rocky. Still two great movies - and Raging Bull is based on a real boxer.

In no particular order: The Natural The Wrestler original Bad News Bears Hoosiers The Fish That Saved Pittsburgh Raging Bull and Caddyshack would be on the list but I don't consider them to be sports movies. 'The Wrestler' is gut wrenching.

I've always thought Rocky 4 was one of the most purely entertaining movies of all time. It's not the best movie but it sure is fun to watch. It's something of a fan favourite. The montages, music, Ivan Drago, the fight etc. It's great.

Hey Danny DeVito on Coke, In 'RB' DeNiro's character was referred to as Jake Lamotta. Rocky Balboa - and I live and breath Philly - ummmmmm - Rock didn't fight Hagler, Hearns and Leonard.... Again - we're talking 'Sports Movies' here Bub. I posted 'Raging Bull' as one of my favorite 'Sports Movies'. Poster countered and stated it's really not a 'sports movie'. My retort? Than Rocky ain't either. Following here Bub? Or do you want me to play some Pictionary and break out the crayons? Didn't think so. Go sit over there ------> Capiche?

Still two great movies - and Raging Bull is based on a real boxer. You could argue that but I think in Rocky's case the film - and the franchise as a whole - tips the balance more in the favor of boxing and the celebration of boxing, of competition, and of the underdog. Themes that encapsulate sports as a whole. Raging Bull is more about the personal life and tragic psychological downfall of a vicious guy that happens to be a boxer.

My favorites, with effort not to repeat the same sport:
The Natural Necessary Roughness Blue Chips Miracle The Fighter
Next Five, using the same criteria:
Major League The Replacements He Got Game Slap Shot Creed
Next five:
Eight Men Out Any Given Sunday White Men Can't Jump Goon Raging Bull
Not counting docs, otherwise Hoop Dreams would be in there somewhere. Also, if Teen Wolf is considered a sports movie, it's my #1.

Rocky Slap Shot Field of Dreams The Natural Bull Durham
The top 3 are set in stone, there are other films I could slip in the 4 and 5 slots, but those first three are all magic for me.

Necessary Roughness was a HUGE disappointment because we got teased with a topless Kathy Ireland (my favorite all-time model) but got nothing!

In no particular order
The Replacements For the Love of the Game Talladega Nights Varsity Blues Tin Cup
Honorable mention to Hardball. A movie with possibly the most tragic death in film history.
