I never got the popularity here. Bland characters, bland premise, bland title, even. I think it's a mark of hack sitcom-writing when you throw in a dumb character, and this one had two of them, comprising 2/6 of the lead cast.

10 when it was in its heyday.
3 when ross and Rachel farted out a kid. -3 when they would pawn the kid off on her mother...
1 when it died.

Almost every sitcom has a dumb character so it's kind of silly to say that's a mark of hack sitcom-writing. Unless you don't like sitcoms in general of course.

Almost every sitcom has a dumb character so it's kind of silly to say that's a mark of hack sitcom-writing. Unless you don't like sitcoms in general of course. Xander Crews is no standard sitcom character who'll just say something dumb because he misunderstands a phrase or misreads a situation for a cheap laugh. I'd say most of the comedic appeal derives from how much of a self-centered schmuck he is. But, to get back to the main point, dumb characters are indeed a staple of sitcoms, and even some quality ones had/have them, like "Cheers" and "The Simpsons." I still think they're a crutch for lazy sitcom writers in general, however. "Seinfeld" didn't need a cliched dumb character; the writers played on more interesting quirks of character.

There were a few seasons where it was genuinely funny. The first seasons were fun and predictable. The later seasons were not so fun and very predictable to the point it became hard to watch, though I did watch it mostly out of habit. 7/10

I never really cared for this show. Gave it a 1. I never really believed that any of them would actually be friends.

I have always hated this program. Ross acts like a whinning puppy. Chandler is so gay. The show is so unrealistic. Never have my friends and I acted like that.
I have always thought Courtney Cox was one of the most beautiful women in the world. Sometimes I would watch it with the Mute on just to watch her. But only for ten - twenty minutes. Even then the inaneness would aggravate me.

Overall, probably about a 7/10, not particularly ground breaking or innovative but enjoyable for the most part.

I don't think the show is amazing or anything, and it was super vanilla, but I liked it okay. Phoebe was far and away my favorite part about the show. (and I can't imagine such a unique and kind of brilliant individual like her would be best friends with any of the others, except maybe Joey because he was sweet.) Lisa Kudrow is hilarious. I will watch anything with her in it. And that includes "Wonderland" (not a comedy)
