People love to call the MCU formulaic and all of the movies are the same despite honest trailers pointing out how all three of the Raimi movies are the same. I enjoyed Raimi's first two but they still feel very dated, TASM brought a different vibe that I really dug. Homecoming looks like it's the most comic accurate Spider Man movie yet. Can't wait to see it in a few hours! Its the fact that Maguire's Parker looks and acts like he should be living in Mayberry, not New York, and MJ being a generic screaming damsel. They should have been played by Jake Gyllenhaal and Julia Stiles. Jake Gyllenhaal would have been great at that age!

It was better than good. It was the best Spider-Man yet!!! Marvel totally nailed Spider-Man. Tom Holland is the perfect Peter and Spider-Man. Michael Keaton as the Vulture was perfect. That car scene made me feel so uncomfortable and probably was meant to. I would love to see him in more Spider-Man movies, but we probably won't see him again sadly. Surprisingly I didn't have a problem with Flash. The guy played him well. The only thing I really didn't like was the MJ thing. That came out of nowhere and it felt like a last minute addition. If Michelle is really supposed to be MJ then they need to fix her character in the sequels big time.
All in all it was exactly what I wanted from the movie. I just hope that Marvel doesen't let Sony hang onto Spider-Man after Spider-Man homecoming 2. Sony does not deserve Spider-Man.

And you needn't look any further than Prince of Persia to know Gyllenhaal is able to pull off the stuntwork.

Sony still wants that Sinister Six movie, remember?

Also he would've been way better in the more emotional moments for that you can look at Brokeback Mountain, pull off being a teen in High School like October Sky and I'm pretty sure he could sound like he's from Queens as well.

Xena & Hercules rocked the first 2-3 seasons Darkman Drag Me to Hell Oz Ash vs the Evil Dead The first 2 spideys were good. I loved Doc Ock. The studio screwed Raimi over on the 3rd film I'm seeing this in the morning for $7 in a plush recliner & a complimentary cup of coffee. He didn't write or direct Xena or Hercules. Darkman was good because of Liam Neeson Oz had James Franco Ash vs the Evil Dead: again, Bruce Campbell The first two Spideys sucked Doc Ock was too sentimental The Hudsucker Proxy, The Quick and the Dead, A Simple Plan, The Gift, and Drag Me to Hell all sucked. His film are entirely dependent are having the right leading actor. When he's cast a lame duck actor like Tobey Maguire, suckage follows. Wow. So I can't like the directors I like? C'mon. I have few enough directors I like. I hate Nolan. I like DePalma's older stuff. And I didn't care for the Amazing Spidey. Peter felt like a support character.

That, and Jake Gyllenhaal has a much more "closeup friendly" face than Maguire does. God, why did Raimi put the camera mere inches from his face so much?

I'm seeing it today, so I might as well take your thoughts into consideration later today.

I would give it a 7.5 its a little better than I thought it would be. Holland and Keaton and Tomei were great. Zendaya was a little scene stealer as well and Liz was good. Still not a fan of Ned and Flash casting.
It didn't top the Raimi films or the first AsM film. They are gonna be hard to top.

Holland sounds like a kid. Pretty sure Ditko envisioned him as a mature 17 year old--old enough or at least with a voice that could pass for an adult. If he is not a loner, it is not Peter Parker.
Raimi's Spider-man wasn't Ditko's either. They fast forwarded through Peter's high school experiences, made Mary Jane much too important, and fucked up the origin. And the Green Goblin looked like a power ranger.
I prefer Doctor Octopus but Anthony Hopkins would have been a better choice than that golden idol promise breaker.

Just be glad we've got Tom Holland now, who is a good spider man that doesn't pull the stupidest faces and whine and cry all the time, unlike Maguire. Although, that said, Gyllenhaal would have fit the role of Spider Man in 2002, so if that were to happen, we would have gotten 3 spider men that we can take seriously, but we got Magwhiner and his non closeup friendly faces that he pulled.

The Raimi hate is so tired and stale. I'm excited to see Homecoming and am interested to see how much I like Holland in the role, but I doubt this movie will surpass Raimi's first and second Spidey movie. Those are classics and both are still in my top ten comic movies.
Cue the typical "You're wrong! MacGuire cries to much, Yada Yada yada..."

I admitt Im not a real fan of the Raimi trilogy but to me Homecoming was indeed the best. Im interested to hear your opinion after you have seen it. Stay trapped till the end of the credits.

Ah, I forgot about the Thursday night early screenings. I'm a Midwesterner as well. So there is a reason why we're both of higher intellect here! 😉 Midwest for the win! Midwest, hmm? I'm a Midwesterner too, and I got back from seeing it not too long ago. Great movie.

It got REAL annoying after the first movie. Sorry you can't live with other people being annoyed as a big flaw in the characterization.
