The Raimi hate is so tired and stale. I'm excited to see Homecoming and am interested to see how much I like Holland in the role, but I doubt this movie will surpass Raimi's first and second Spidey movie. Those are classics and both are still in my top ten comic movies. Cue the typical "You're wrong! MacGuire cries to much, Yada Yada yada..." Well, he DID cry too much. It got REAL annoying after the first movie. Sorry you can't live with other people being annoyed as a big flaw in the characterization. In actuality he barely cries at all. And when he does, it's appropriate. There's one terrible crying performance in the third one (on the bridge) and now everyone that hates those movies projects that scene over the whole trilogy. How many times does he cry in the first two movies? Once in each? And you act like its every damn scene. Peter should cry when his uncle dies! And you say "characterization flaw". The hell? He's not a fucking psychopath!

He's not a fucking psychopath! I'm not using "cry" in the literal sense. He's too wishywashy and looks like he's on the verge of tears in just about every scene. This is not Spider-Man. He has no spine, he just takes whatever verbal abuse people dish out to him with no retort, and then just mopes and wallows in self-pity. It compounded by the fact Maguire does all of this in the most annoying ways imaginable.

Homecoming is amazing, but it doesn't erase the Raimi films
One can like both.
I know that may shock you
At the time spiderman came out it was amazing & incredible.
So because effects are better nowadays we can chuck Lugosi's Dracula out as old & dated? Or can we appreciate Lugosi made an excellent Dracula?

Holland sounds like a kid. Pretty sure Ditko envisioned him as a mature 17 year old--old enough or at least with a voice that could pass for an adult. If he is not a loner, it is not Peter Parker. Raimi's Spider-man wasn't Ditko's either. They fast forwarded through Peter's high school experiences, made Mary Jane much too important, and fucked up the origin. And the Green Goblin looked like a power ranger. I prefer Doctor Octopus but Anthony Hopkins would have been a better choice than that golden idol promise breaker. ?Molina was great. He was an excellent Snidely Whiplash. I love Dudley Doright. So campy It had the perfect line about bad guys having all the fun.

I wasn't impressed. Especially one line where he says "woo her with poetry."
I dont think Stan Lee would stoop to such a hokey line.

Well, except your Resusci Annie doll, but her personality is only a construct in your head. You obviously don't know Stan Lee. Also, teenagers say dumb things all the time. You should know that better than anyone, kid.

No one cars what you think. You care enough to respond. Aww thanks. Lee's dialogue could be awful but not that awful. Besides, the way Ditko drew Dr. O, he wouldnt have had him sitting around with a coffee and Peter Parker.

Just finished watching this. Not too bad actually. Could have done without the stupid High School friend but once you take him out of the equation, not bad at all.

MJ was an empty scream queen. Gwen Stacy in ASM1 was an awesome chick. ThANK YOU! There was waaaay better chemistry between Emma Stone and Garfield than between Maguire and Dunst

It might be the case, but anyway,it helped the movies Emma Stone also has great chemistry with Ryan Gosling, and I don't know if there ever was something between them

Excellent flick for so many reasons. Perfect blend of action, comedy and occasional drama that didn't feel forced. Loved the chemistry between Pete and Ned. Keaton was fantastic. Most of all, this movie nailed Peter Parker. It captured the intellect, sensibilities and heart of the character more than any previous incarnation. It was fun to see the fresh takes on all the classic supporting cast. Just a great ride from start to finish, can't wait to see it again. Spoiler stuff: I didn't see the twist with Keaton coming at all. That scene was (no pun intended) amazing. The tension kept ratcheting up despite the humor and Holland played it perfectly. It only got better as Keaton put it all together in the car. What a scene. The Spidey suit provided plenty of laughs as well; the instant kill setting, interrogation mode, all of it. Great stuff. It could get a little stale if the MCU starts turning everyone into Iron Man in terms of capabilities (they also did it with Falcon in Civil War) but it's still fresh right now and it was played to perfection in Homecoming.
Absolutely loved the scene where Peter digs himself out of the collapsed warehouse. A little corny but again, such a perfect Peter Parker moment. He's in over his head, the chips are down, but his tremendous heart carries him through. It was probably my favorite scene in the film, and there were a lot of great scenes. I really dug that shot of him looking at his reflection in the puddle where his mask was and seeing half Peter, half Spidey.
If I wanted to nitpick I'd say the end doesn't make a ton of sense. Tony took the suit away because he thought Peter was trying to do too much too soon and not looking at the big picture. So Peter continues trying to do too much, now with less capability than the Stark suit afforded him and Tony rewards him? I mean he caused a plane crash in a heavily populated area that miraculously resulted in zero casualties! Sure he was just trying to stop the bad guys but that's what he was doing when Tony punished him in the first place. Doesn't make a ton of sense but I'm glad he got the suit back anyway. On a personal level, the greatest accomplishment Homecoming achieved was reminding me why I loved this character so much as a kid. It had been so long since we had a decent Spidey flick (13 years!! And the last three were flat out terrible.) that I started to think I just couldn't relate to the character anymore. Thank you Sony and Marvel for teaming up to finally show us what makes Peter Parker/Spider-Man so compelling and easy to root for.

Too different from classic Spider-Man to be the "best" but it does well enough in adapting him into a pre-existing world. Spider-Man 1 and 2 are better and they were Raimi's passion projects. This is a decent job by a hired gun for a committee, like the Amazing series with much less sloppy results. Holland is easier to like than Garfield but Maguire is still the Christopher Reeve of Spider-Man.
