I literally just got home from seeing a 4:30 showing of this film and omg I loved it so much it was just so much fun. I had a few MINOR nit picks about it but absolutely nothing that brought down my pure enjoyment of this film.
Pros:
Tom Holland IS Spider-Man AND Peter Parker. He once again just kills it and he's already my favorite Spidey because he just blows Tobey and Andrew out of the water. He's got the humor as Spidey and the awkwardness of Peter, he's just perfect.
Marisa Tomei was awesome but I love anything and everything she does. I just had a minor nitpick here but more on that later.
Supporting cast was great for my liking. Liz was good, Ned was fun, Martin Starr was good, and surprisingly I enjoyed Zendaya's character a lot more than I ever thought I would. More on her later though.
Michael Keaton was a very good villain for this film. What I mostly enjoyed was that his motives were very down to earth and it wasn't about ruling the world or destroying it. It was simply about him being screwed over and he is doing it in order to provide for his family. A very relate-able story arch. Keaton also had me with his performance, his speech with Peter in the car really convinced me of how evil this guy really could be. Glad they didn't kill him off as I wouldn't mind him being in future films.
The humor of this film was spot on and for me personally was one of the funniest MCU films in quite some time. I laughed so much with this film and it just had so many great moments
The action I was originally worried about going into this film hearing that Spidey wasnt going to punch anybody but they really got the feel of Spider-Man I feel like.
Karen...originally I wasn't really into the techi-ness of his suit but once he took the training wheels off and was chatting with Karen I thought it was a very fun addition and I was happy with it.
I also loved seeing how wreckless this version of Spider-Man is. I mean he's still young and he's still learning and he did a lot of random property damage when he was chasing after the van before Vulture caught him and dropped him in a lake. This will be brought up later as well.
In no way shape or form did this feel like Iron Man 4 like a ton of people tried to joke that it would be. This film was 100% Spider-Man's film.
Captain America's cameo's were just great.
Cons
I didn't need to be reminded of how hot Aunt May is like 3 or 4 times at the start of the movie. Fine we get it, but if you're gonna go with it don't then try and bring down her hottness by wearing those horrendous glasses. If you're going with hot Aunt May then go all the way with hot Aunt May.
Too many already know Spider-Man secret identity and it's only the first movie. You've got Ned (fine), Vulture (fine given the way the story played out), and then finally after 1 movie Aunt May already knows Peter is Spider-Man (which was hilarious tbh how it ended the film but still just a minor nit pick)
I'm really not into Zendaya's Michelle now being the MJ of this universe. I mean given that I actually liked her character more than expected I'll be fine with it going forward but I just really wish that they weren't actually going this route. Once again just a minor thing.
Pepper being back...I'm sorry but I just don't like Gwyneth Paltrow so much, like Natalie Portman I was kind of hoping that she was just gone from these films.
How was Spider-Man able to breath when he was fighting Vulture on the plane? Sure if he had his other suit I'd be willing to assume he had some sort of device that Tony put in there but no he was in just a sweat shirt and ski mask. I was fine with Vulture as he had one like a flight mask so I didn't question that. Once again, just a minor thing.
And finally with the property damage that Spider-Man was costing throughout the movie and the wrecklessness of his actions I REALLY feel like it was such a perfect opportunity for a credits scene to introduce JJ slamming down a Daily Bugle newspaper and scream "This Spider-Man is a menace!"
So in the end this film was HIGHLY enjoyable and just so much fun to watch. As a fan of Spider-Man since I was a child I can't help but feel like this one really nailed all the aspects of Spider-Man/Peter Parker. I'd give it a 9.5/10 with just a few minor nit picks to prevent it from being a 10.
