I don't hate Jar Jar as much as others, but he was one of the most annoying things about Phantom Menace.
He was deliberately put there to appeal to children, and it was totally unnecessary.
Kinda like how the Ewoks were added to ROTJ to sell toys.

Probably because in his off screen time he is known to be an internet troll.

It's a cocktail: he's ingratiating, stupid and talks some kind of painful pidgin dialect in which he appears to keep referring to himself in the third person. If you so much as saw him at a party you'd stand as far away as possible; but when we're watching the movie, George Lucas doesn't allow us to.

It's funny but as annoying he is, I didn't mind him in the Phantom Menace. But then George Lucas inexplicably sets him up as the doofus who helped place Palpatine in power.

I liked him more after the fan theory that he's actuallyasith lord. That idea changes everything about him.

George did this because he made it up as he went along. There was no grand plan. Jar Jar's reduced role in the trilogy was in response to negative feedback.

Because people are sheep with no minds of their own. Haters on the internet decided to hate him, along with the prequels, so the foolish sheep jumped on the bandwagon and hated them too.
The character is fine. He just got a bit too much screen time is all.

He was both annoying and racially insensitive.

Sir_Farty_Fartsalot said "I haven't seen "The Phantom Menace" is nearly 20 years & barely remember him."
and yet starts a thread about him. Btw, who is this "nobody" person ?

His voice is like nails on a chalkboard and watching him is like getting poked in the eye with a stick.

I liked him actually. I hated how his screen time was reduced after TPM cause of negative feedback.
