Admin recently touched on this scabab, and if I recall correctly, he purged the accounts that had been inactive for over a certain time period.

Yeah this site is dead or dying slowly. Hope you are wrong. It may have slowed down but it is still more active than many others.

Speaking only from my point of view, I was completely gung-ho for this site in February. Then, very, very quickly, it began changing from an extension of the IMDB to something else all together. I don't come here to discuss film and television anymore, because those threads are pretty much dead. Instead, I see a lot of silliness, like "which planet do you like most" and stuff like that peppering the different pages. That's why membership has dropped.
I've stuck around and participated in the craziness, but I'll admit it doesn't really interest me much. I preferred the give and take on the old IMDB, when people would watch an episode of a TV show and then discuss it in detail. Very rarely does something like that happen over here.

I wouldn't say this site is necessarily for movie and TV shows, but more for general discussion. I tend to go elsewhere to read responses about certain episodes.
That's right, Admin purges older accounts. I can't blame him since there's no point in somebody registering, post once, then disappear. If they do decide to come back, then I'm sure Admin wouldn't have a problem.

Its not a site for movies anymore. Most of the actove threads are about politics and other rubbish. Its been hijacked by those other groups

For example, when I watched Gotham on Fox every week, I could go to the IMDB the next day to read other's reactions/reviews of that particular episode. Stuff like that doesn't happen here. Instead, we have people writing, "what movie is this?" or "I need to know who sang this song in that episode of that show." And mostly, the answers are just as inane. I was looking through someone's posts (she has well over 5,000, just amazing), and they're all pretty danged stupid.
No wonder the membership has dropped. I've a feeling it'll drop even more, especially if the nonsense keeps popping up.

I don't know if I'm allowed to link it here, but you can Google it. The only real difference between that site and the old IMDb boards is that you can't create subjects. All responses are under each episode topic, and are usually locked before they air. Other than that, it's pretty good. It seems a bit more organized than IMDb. They've been around since 2014, way before IMDb even contemplated doing away with the boards. I do see a few of the previous posters on there, most of the ones who registered in February of this year.

I preferred the give and take on the old IMDB, when people would watch an episode of a TV show and then discuss it in detail. Very rarely does something like that happen over here. What you are saying is totally correct but there is a reason for that. On old IMDB there were message boards dedicated to each and every movie. So many movie lovers such as you simply went to those movie threads and participated in interesting discussions. Once done, you moved on to another movie's message board and again discussed the interesting stuffs about that other movie. But for that reason a great percentage of movie lovers were not able to form a bond among themselves except for those who stayed on a particular board such as LOTR or James Bond. But people of special boards such as religion board or politics board formed a sense of community. They posted on those boards all the time for years and so they moved here in groups. For example, I was a dedicated member of religion board and no less than 67 regular members of religion board came here and they still post over here. You asked a question on ICB that how Full Metal Jacket was related to Indian cinema. The answer is that it is not related to Indian cinema at all. But there is an ecosystem developed on Indian cinema board and they discuss anything over there. Those members have posted together for over 10 years. Same way we the people of religion board have posted on our board for years and that's why we found this place as a refuge. We also tend to discuss non-religious topics on religion board because we have developed an ecosystem. So this board was always going to eventually turn into general message board in the long run simply because of groups of people that joined this place and because this place lacks message boards dedicated to movies. That said, this place is not dying if you consider non-movie related boards. Politics board, soapbox and RFS haven't seen any significant decline. Yes, movie boards have stalled in growth. To answer the OP- The admin had purged the inactive members. So even if there are fewer members, the traffic has not changed significantly because of that.

And THAT, my friend, is why this board is dying. When someone goes to an Indian Cinema board and finds films like Full Metal Jacket being discussed, it's a bit jarring. And then to receive no answer as to why the film's being discussed is even more jarring. Instead of coming here and recreating an "ecosystem," why not do something really new. Like discussing Indian cinema, for example. When I posted over there, all I got was sass for my logical question about Full Metal Jacket and what relationship it had to Indian Cinema. Responses like that don't make for a welcoming community; instead, they're a turn-off. If what you're saying is true, that religious boards and other insular groups like that have come over here to change this place into something they prefer, well, the board will be dead. It will simply cease to exist.

It will simply cease to exist. What you say is again correct. This website has no marketing so it will stop getting members to replace the current regulars when they leave this site and that way it will eventually die. The question is how long can this board sustain. Most of us will be glad if IMDB were to restart their message boards. But until then people of politics board, religion board and soapbox would like to hold on to this board and preserve the ecosystems they developed a decade back. So let's just hope that this board survives till IMDB gives us back some new way to communicate. That said, I do like to say that off-topic is mainly permitted on 3 boards - Religion board, politics board and Indian cinema board. You won't find any significant number of off-topic threads on Classic Cinema board or Film Noir board or Western board.

They also have a movie section, but most members do not know about it. There is another really active site by the name of Blu-Ray Forum. I’m not a member of that site, but it looks like it’s probably more active than any other site I’ve come across so far. I’m a member at Previously TV, and MovieChat as well. Between these 3 sites, I find everything I need. To be honest, at first I didn’t think that I would like this site very much. But almost every day I usually find an interesting conversation to participate in.

I've tried alternative sites like The Movie Database, but it's as dead as a doorknob. I didn't know about the Blu-ray forum. I thought that was just for discussing Blu-ray tech.

Yeah, that’s too bad about The Movie DB, because it’s actually a pretty good site. But as you say, almost no activity over there, which is odd. The Blu-Ray site is super active, but you could probably lose yourself over there pretty easily, because it’s set up much the same way as here in that it’s not categorized into subforums for the most part. And being as busy as it is, that could lead to chaos when trying to keep up. I too am not sure if it’s cool to post links to other sites here, but when I googled: “Blu Ray forum” it came right up.
