I love it. Very true to the comics.

That's doesn't look much like how he looked in BvS.

That's doesn't look much like how he looked in BvS. well his helmet is to the side, and in bvs that was that kryptonian liquid metal rendition of him also...........they change character looks often.

It still seems like a pretty big departure to have him go from being a big CGI monster with no clothes, to Ciaran Hinds in armor and some makeup. It does make me curious to see what Darkseid will look like though. I'm curious if Michael McElhatton will play him?

So apparently the character is entirely CGI through motion capture. Also, Hinds recently said on the Michael Ball Show that he never met the JL cast during production.

Hinds while speaking on BBC’s Michael Steppenwolf armor now revealed that no costume ever existed: “ I’m sorry I’m not in costume. I didn’t even have a costume when I was doing it. It’s all done in motion capture. So… they stick a helmet on your head, they put two cameras around, and they capture all your expressions, facial expressions. So basically, they’re going to concoct some kind of construction and they will use my facial expressions – eyes, mouth, voice – they’ll turn into this murderous, avenging Steppenwolf from the planet Apokolips, apparently. Who’s bent on Hell on Earth.”
