Ok,
When I heard he was going to have a AI built in the suit, I was worried. NO, that's Iron-man's thing, why can't they let SM be SM, he dosen't need all the fancy stuff bla bla bla and on top of all a freaking AI? NOOOOOO
Ok, now that I have seen it (twice, one of them in glorious IMAX 3D, and I must stress see it in IMAX 3D, just for the Washington monument alone. Best Vertigo scene ever, amazing stuff) I must say, the AI stands for one of the things they never were able to do in the movies: Thought Bubbles
One of the better aspects of the SPidey comics was the fact that his inner thoughts were present, when he was swinging, when he was fighting, we knew what Peter was thinking. In the movies thay never were really able to do it. Sure there was some voice over narrative, but that we know Peter because we know what he is thinking was always missing.
Enter KAREN the AI! Now we know what his fears are because the dialogue is so intimate, he talks about girls, he talks about strategies, he talks about what web he is going to use. It's great knowing those things and I was craving for her when he go back to the homemade suit. Suddenly he was silenced inside, and I wanted to know what he was thinking.
Nicely done...

LOL, no, not really but for spidey it works wonders.

Good point. Peter's relationship with Karen also seems more intimate, more friendly than Stark and Jarvis.

I was going to post the exact same thing. The AI gives Spidey someone to talk to. In the comic books (and the comic strip) we always knew what was going through his head. This is a brilliant way to do the same thing in the movies.

Having not seen the movie yet I'm still apprehensive about the AI voice. I don't think it suits the character. But I won't judge too harshly until I actually watch it.

Like i said the idea of tech and specially the AI was putting me off but it worked really well to 'ear' Pete's inner voice. also the techy stuff didn't take away the spidery stuff. the parachute was used once and i think will never be used again, the tracker he always used, the wings don't clash enough with the acrobatics and are reminiscent from the comics, the eyes are a techy way of him doing expressions. The things that were additions like the drone and surveillance mode were a bit techy for me but the drone is like a sophisticated camera and the surveillance and other modes are well used but would be dispensable, but it make the pace go faster instead of him overearing stuff and taking pictures and later trying to find out who people is in the internet etc finnally the web shooters mainly gives an explanation for stuff he is been using for years, like web balls rapid shotter, double web, etc, there are one or two exclusive to the movies settings but nothing too outlandish. all in all I was happy that the tech didn't take from the character, and in KAREN it really ads to it.

SaveSaveThe more I think about the monument scene the more I like it. In IMAX 3d was amazingly good. I know 3d got a bad rep as of lately ans it's deserved but then it comes a scene or a movie that blows my mind. This was one of those. It's a shame there are fewer and fewer. The sense of height was ubeliavable. People around me were gasping in the outside shots.

The 2D presentation was a big step down, to say the least, coming right off of the IMAX screen. I usually don't go to see anything in 3D; but, my local theater screwed up on opening night. They advertised a 2D/IMAX screening that was, in reality, a 3D/IMAX screening. They carted everyone into the theater with no glasses and started the film. We sat through 30 minutes of 2D trailers none the wiser. Needless to say, there saw a mini riot. My local theater had managed to fuck up the very first preview-night screening of one of the biggest movies of the summer. They had to stop the film, distribute the missing glasses and restart the show. I was disappointed because I don't care for 3D all that much. I struggled with just leaving the theater and trying to get a refund but, 10 minutes or so into the film I was sold on the quality of the 3D. It was exceptional, and it enhanced the Washington monument set piece in particular. SaveSave

SaveSave when there is no reason for it I prefer 2d but I too saw it twice one 3d and one 2d and the 3d blew the other away. Same with Dr. Strange and 🐜-man that get enhancement from 3d.

if someone had described it to me before i saw the movie i probably would have been very put off by the idea. but it worked terrifically. reminds me more than a little of a certain plot device from Star Trek: Beyond.

What was the plot point? the badguys are defeated by playing the Beastie Boys. i wasn't in a hurry to see the movie after Into Darkness and hearing this didn't encourage me any. turned out to be one of the better Trek films.
