Happened to come across this in an IMDb 'User Review' for the movie, "The Stewardesses" (1969): "It has been 35 years since I saw this movie and I still think of it as the worst film I have ever viewed in a theater. My companions and I asked for our money back but were refused." Wondering if anybody here has ever asked for their money back at a movie theater, and if so, what the movie was, and whether or not you were given a refund (or, if not, the reason you were refused)? SAVE FERRIS

No, not for quality of movie being shown. But there was the time a fire broke out and we had to evacuate. We collectively requested and received either money back or vouchers for a future ticket.

Buy the ticket, take the ride....even if the ride sucks...
The only time I asked for money back was when the theater was too full and the only seats available were the front row..

No, but I thought Dogma was so bad that I felt entitled to sneak into another movie shown in the cineplex. Pretty sure it was The Messenger, the one about Joan of Arc.

Yes. But only once, and heres why...when i was a teen me and my cousin went to see a movie...i think it was the second Austin Powers flick. But part way through an usher came up to us both with a flash light and asked us to escort him back to the lobby. We went, confused...there they asked us both if we had purchased tickets...which we had...and to show them our stubs. So we did. They said ok and told us we could go back to our seats but they had interrupted us for at least 10 minutes. They had assumed we somehow snuck in for some reason and didn't pay. I was kind of upset at this so i didn't really even enjoy the rest of the movie and when it was over i insisted we go demand our money back for the unnecessary interuption. Which the lady at the ticket counter obliged.

No. If i go see a movie and its terrible, then its my own fault, not the cinema fault.

If I paid anything for Scary Movie 5 and Cars 3 I would have, but I saw them free.

msdemos et al. Yes--well, kind of--but not because the movie was terrible (though it was). I've told this story on this forum before (Lord knows where), but I attended a screening of that remake they did a few years back of Escape to Witch Mountain with Dwayne Johnson. It was on a Thursday afternoon, when nobody was really at the movies. I go in with some other people, we sit down, and the commercials run...and run...and run...and run... The movie never started. The screen went dark. After several minutes, I leave the room and talk to the theater owner (it was a small, family-run theater). Well, whatta ya know... The projectionist fell asleep in the booth. Yup. I ask the owner if he can offer any recompense, and he suggested giving us our money back--so there's that... The movie stunk, by the way. Actually, that kind of thing--the "projectionist fell asleep" bit, not the "got money back" bit--happened to me again when I saw TCM's presentation of Planet of the Apes in theaters... What kind of movies do I choose where the projectionist always falls asleep?

To demand a refund because the movie sucked is a total douche move. Saw people trying it after seeing Paranormal Activity.
I have solved this issue pretty successfully: I never go to the theater any more. At those prices, what do you think I am, some kind of wally or something? I wait for everything on Netflix, then if it sucks, oh well, I paid pennies on the dollar compared to a movie ticket.
If I am really desperate to see a new release (Arrival, Split) I'll pay up for the Amazon streaming rental.

No. I never knew you could until my sister inlaw & brother did it. They walked out of a movie and got their money back.

poelzigRight outside of Boston, Mass., but I was on Long Island (NY) at the time (where my parents live). Wouldn't you know, though, they were two different theaters, absolutely no connection to each other. The one was small and family-owned, the other a major chain.
