one of the most average, paint by numbers superhero flicks you can think that somehow got a 94% rating on RT, tied with The Dark Knight as the highest rated superhero movie.

The Toby Mcguire movies are overrated and paint by numbers, too.

How dare people be entertained by something that is okay and have their own personal experience affect their judgement. How dare they!

Haven't seen it yet, but I thought this exact same thing about Wonder Woman a few weeks ago. I didn't really understand the hype after I watched it. A good solid flick but it's a movie I've seen before a bunch of times. There wasn't really anything fresh about it. Kind of wish the Amazons had more play. Maybe then it would've stuck out more.
But yea I doubt Spider-Man will wow the socks off me either.
But people like what they want. I'm by no means the be all end all of critics.

It's worse than average, it's complete garbage that lacks any style whatsoever, any emotional grip, involves one of the most annoying friend characters in movie history and instead of just being a Spider-Man movie in never gives up the chance to not let you forget it is connected to the MCU. Peter has zero chemistry with anyone in the movie and no one else has chemistry with anyone else. The movie has zero stakes, it barely has a story, Vulture is an afterthought and it has a couple of the most ridiculous dues ex machina moments I have ever seen.
Not to mention that Spider-Man is missing the awe effect to the public because Superheroes are already a common thing in the world of this film and because of this it makes the movie far less interesting. I mean, the public is aware of gods for crying out loud. The best example of this is when his friend finds out his is Spider-Man (and in the first 30 min. of the movie no less) his first response is "Are you an Avenger?" It's not "hey cool my best friend is a Superhero", it's "Hey cool, my best friend knows Tony Stark and The Avengers."
I see now Tony Stark has the ability to fix a boat that has been ripped in half .
Apparently flying villains with extremely dangerous weapons and the ability to walk through solid matter are beneath Tony Stark's pay grade.
4.5/10 and it makes Spider-Man 3 look like high art.

IMO the most overrated movie ever is The Force Awakens but thats just me. Talk about a turd of a film .
As for Spiderman Homecoming, I went in with very low expectations (mainly due to being duped by the MCU way too many times. The last time being Dr Strange which is about as mediocre & uninspiring as it gets) But I came away being entrained by this new Spiderman . Holland is an admirable Peter Parker and a lot of the jokes actually worked here unlike many of the MCU films. But I do see where the OP is coming from on some points. The MCU does usually like to play it "safe" . My rating for Homecoming is something like 7.5-8/10 . Was very pleased that Tony Stark didn't hog all the screen time . I didn't like the ultra high tech suit that Start designed for Peter though. Kinda took away from Spiderman's spidey senses . But thats just a minor grip.

Which fools were foolish enough to actually watch it, let alone rate it?

Is it at least better than Big Hero 6? I found that way the hell overpraised as far as superhero movies go, even animated ones.

I would not worry about it as super hero movies in general tend to be rated really high on IMDb even though they are no where near THAT good in my opinion.
as for my general opinion of Spider-Man stuff... they are all average, at best. i have seen the three Tobey Maguire along with the one from 2012. the new one looks pretty weak as i have a feeling, at least from what i could tell on the commercials, is they are milking Robert Downey Jr to boost the movie etc.
