Jack Wolz's mansion in The Godfather. The place was built by William Randolph Hearst for mistress Marion Davies. Not sure if it had a stable.

Beware, My Lovely's house was conventional, I agree, Spiderwort, Great post, telegonus. And I agree completely about My Man Godfrey in particular. I think I've remembered that landscape since I first saw the film as a young teenager. As to the studios and their sets/locations, I would agree with almost everything you said, except that I think Warners did a very good job during the Depression and later in the '50s with films like East of Eden, Rebel Without a Cause, The Music Man, The Dark at the Top of the Stairs and even things like On Moonlight Bay, etc. They were good as those periods. Their Midwest Street and New York Street are my favorites of all the studios, though Metro was pretty great, too - much better before they got sold off to create Century City. For that matter, Warner's back lot has suffered some serious losses - like Western Street - just to create parking lots. Just a small correction, Spider: it was 20th-Fox's backlot that became Century City in the '60s; MGM's two largest backlots (#2 & #3) were developed in the '70s as primarily residential (some of the street names, such as Wimpole, reference MGM films).

Yeah, you're so right, doghouse. I know better; just wasn't thinking. Thanks for the correction. It's Twentieth "Century" Fox, after all. And thank you for being so gracious about my nitpicking. Oddly, there's an MGM Drive that winds around behind the Century Plaza Hotel between Avenue Of the Stars and Century Park West (don't know what that's about!).

Thanks for the word on the Beverly House. Looks like it can be had for a mere $195 million. Always nice to see Pamela Tiffin.

...another neat house was the one that Mel Gibson took down with a pick-up truck in one of the Lethal Weapon films...

There was a recent thread somewhat along these lines at the original imdb.
