Why is it that every film their is some teenage rich boy, and not a boy that has parents of average wealth? It's like, 'some average teenage high school boy growing up in a mansion.' Examples: risky business, ferris bueller, home alone and the list gows on.

One Huhges directed film, one Hughes written film without a teenage boy and one film that had nothing to do with Hughes...a concrete observation

I'd assume he just grew up that way, although it doesn't particularly sound like it looking at his wiki. The Griswalds seemed pretty average in Vacation.

You sound like you just watched RedLetterMedia's review for Spider-Man: Homecoming. At 32:29 they start talking about John Hughes.

Just watch "Not Another Teen Movie" and it'll explain... sort of.

Not sure I understand the question. I think the question is supposed to be "Why were John Hughes' films almost all about privileged white kids?"

Yeah, it's actually weird that he was considered to be the voice of the 80s young generation. The best he ever really gave to middle class or blue collar kids was John Bender.

Love and loss and coming of age crap, ya know.

Very true, but I a lot of teen films at least got the "normal kid" vibe down better. That said, Hughes' 80s stuff was good for the most part.

Grew up with him so his movies are ingrained in my childhood.

Not sure I understand the question. I think the question is supposed to be "Why were John Hughes' films almost all about privileged white kids?" The OP didn't mention race. (So why are you doing so?) He did mention sex, though: he specifically asked about male protoganists, possibly because it would ruin the generalisation not to apply this filter - the protagonist in Pretty in Pink is not rich, but also not male. And given the small number of examples people have in mind when they think of "John Hughes films", this constitutes about 25% of the sample.
