I don't recall Harley Quinn's age ever being specified in the film. Besides, Jared Leto is older than Ben Affleck. Harley clearly isn't a recent addition to Batman's Rogues Gallery, she's meant to have been around for years. And she was already a Doctor BEFORE she became a villain, so she had to have already been around 30 whens he first joined Joker. So really, Harley should be in her late 30s or so. But we have an actress at least 10 years too young playing the character. Do psychiatrists have to be at least in their 30s? I don't recall evidence to suggest that Harley Quinn was supposed to be in her 30s. Besides, how does this tie into Jared Leto being cast as the Joker for being "young" despite being in his 40s?

A Psychiatrist is a fully licensed MD, meaning you go through Medical School. Typically that means if you went straight there after University then you're pushing 30 by the time you're done. So Harley would've already been older than Margot Robbie BEFORE she became Joker's sidekick, and I'm guessing it took a little longer than a few months for Joker to seduce her. Add to that, she's been with Joker for years and you're getting someone at least in her late 30s. It's an example of how the age of the actor doesn't match up with the age of the character they're playing. Same with for Enchantress, she's supposed to be a world renowned archeologist (which means she has a PHD) but Cara Delevigne was only around 23 at the time.

Doesn't medical school usually take around 4 years? That would mean that Harley could be around 26 or 27. Not really what I'd consider pushing 30. Besides, I never liked Harley Quinn as a character. She was always a pointless character who only exists to prove ghost the Joker isn't gay.

Remember though, she's been with Joker for years and it probably took some time for her to build up enough cred to get her Arkham job to begin with (I doubt they send fresh Psychiatrists to examine hardcore psychotics). She isn't some newbie in the villain department. She has to have been around as Harley Quinn for probably 5-10 years.

I do believe that in the animated series, it was established that she was relatively new as a psychiatrist when she met the Joker. The idea was most likely for her to be in her late twenties I'd imagine. Anyway, this really has nothing to do with the fact that Jared Leto isn't young at all. He doesn't even look that young.

I think he looks about 10-15 years younger than he actually is, IMO. And even if Harley was in her late 20s to start with, we have to take into account she's been a villain for around 1 decade.

Batman's been at his thing for 20 years, and most of those 20 were against Joker. I figured Harley was with Joker for at least half that time.

Well, he certainly would have been given much better direction and dialogue thats for sure (but overall, he wouldn't be able to match Ledger's acting. Ledger was always on another level). Absolutely! Glad someone said it. I like Jared Leto...I've seen him be great in quite a few movies, but his Joker is just...a huge NO for me. He needs boundaries set and good direction. Just saw him in the new Blade Runner trailer and he's more menacing in that than he was in all Suicide Squad. He has the acting chops just needs good direction.
