MAX is a boy with a journal all of the things he imagines. His creations include 2 super-heroes. One can generate and control lava, which is why her name is LAVAGIRL. The other can generate and control water, which is why his name is WATERBOY. What's that? It's SHARKBOY? Why? Because he can also breathe under water and communicate with and summon water animals? That's too general, so his name should be FISHBOY. Anyway, it turns out that they're real and they need his help to save the dream world. They take MAX to a planet called... Well, let's just say the name is something we sometimes do while we're asleep. Something that can leave a stain. Why are you putting that face? Oh, no! It's PLANET DROOL! Get your minds out of the gutter! We can use the word "Dream" to refer to the images we see while we are sleeping or to the wishes we have for the future... but that doesn't mean that both uses of the word are the same. Quite the opposite, actually. The things that happen inside our mind don't have to be logical, but we choose to be realistic when we think about the future. Well, the pressure of the possible negative outcomes makes that choice feel like an obligation, but at least we're aware of what we do. We don't control what happens when we're asleep. That's the main (but not only) reason why this movie doesn't work: Robert Rodríguez doesn't seem to understand this difference, so the lessons he tries to teach make no sense. ------------------------------------- You can read the full review in my blog (in English, in Spanish or in Italian) and/or watch the video review:

My brother really likes the movies that have such terrible quality or storylines that they end up being hilarious. So of course this is a movie that he likes. I always say to him that it's a really stupid movie, and his response is always, "That's why I like it so much." I guess that's the way things are going to be.

What your brother described is the concept of "so bad it's good"... which is valid.

Eh, it's a pretty entertaining movie for small children and parents can watch it with them without going insane. So it's not bad.

I was with my kids, I guess I could have took a nap. No, at least that way, you had the opportunity to tell them if there was something they shouldn't learn from the movie. It sounds like it was mandatory. Were you at the theatre? Wasn't there another movie you could watch?

Not mandatory, but I liked to spend time and be with them, even if it was something I didn't enjoy personally. I suffered through Tellytubbies, Barney, etc... At least when we got to SpongeBob, I could actually enjoy that!
